In the serene landscape of Aalborg, Denmark, there is a new home that catches the eye and arouses curiosity. It is the new home of businessman Michael Saxtoft, which has been renovated by BK Nord arkitekter og ingeniører, who counted on the vast architectural experience of Thomas Bach-Jensen, Architect & Design Sales Manager of Cosentino Denmark. Together, they have created a very personal and contemporary home. More than just a building, this project represents a fusion of the owner’s personal and professional desires, brought together within a framework that promotes functionality and aesthetics.

Indeed, the house is a reflection of Saxtoft’s personal preferences, with a style that combines Californian influences and Scandinavian simplicity with a subtle industrial touch. The choice of materials – dark brick, dark wood and Corten steel – and the large floor-to-ceiling windows enhance the design and ensure that the building blends in beautifully with its surroundings.

One of the most notable decisions made during the renovation process was to replace some of the original materials, such as concrete and microconcrete, with more versatile and visually appealing materials. In this sense, the use of Dekton by Cosentino stands out. This ultra-compact stone was used in a very innovative way throughout the house. According to Michael Saxtoft: “The use of Dekton is a brilliant example of how we have optimised our original plans, offering functional possibilities without compromising on design.”

Dekton, all over the house

The collaboration with Bach-Jensen was crucial in this process. “The dialogue about using the material for different applications supported the idea of creating continuity right through the house,” says Saxtoft. Meanwhile, Bach-Jensen emphasises the versatility and aesthetics of the materials chosen: “Dekton Keon and Dekton Trilium are perfect for providing the desired continuity throughout the project. It was professionally inspiring to see the potential of the material.”

The use of Dekton Keon and Trilium for the flooring, kitchens, worktops, stairs and bathrooms not only ensures the durability and ease of maintenance that the owners were looking for, but also provides a visual consistency throughout the house, even in the laundry room. Known for its strength and beauty, this material is a perfect match for this design, which combines Scandinavian style with a Californian touch, reinforcing the unique character of the house.
