Vilja Vehkaoja built a modern holiday home, which was completed in 2023. In the cottage kitchen, Vilja aimed for a very timeless look. Since the kitchen is the dominant element of the entire cottage, she wanted it to be as minimalist and clean as possible. For the dark grey cabinets, she chose Dekton Helena countertops, which have a bit of a kick in a subdued way. They harmonize well with other shades of the interior of the cottage. The surface of Dekton Helena is shiny, so the countertops will be a clear luxury element of an otherwise even slightly rough cottage and an eye-catcher for the entire living area.

"The kitchen is usually one of the most significant spaces in the home. Its importance becomes even greater in the case of an open-plan kitchen adjacent to the living areas. The most important room in our cottage is a fairly large living area, crowned by a minimalist and streamlined kitchen that occupies approximately a third of the space”, says Vilja Vehkaoja.

“Our cottage has a lot of light surfaces, even though there is no actual white anywhere. The surfaces are rich in natural materials, such as white waxed wood and concrete. To accompany them, we have painted the walls in an almost white Tikkurila Feather shade, which refracts natural light into either beige or gray, depending on the color. To go with these light shades, we chose a stylish dark grey kitchen with handles, which brings posture to the premises and raises the profile of the interior of the entire building.”
