The clean and luxurious look of the Lan Yue residence in Taipei, Taiwan, has earned architect Chung-Yang Hsieh and A+RT Interior Design Co., Ltd several awards, including the A’Design Award and Competition and the Muse Design Awards, which recognise designers whose inventiveness and meticulous work are capable of changing paradigms and leaving people speechless.

Both appreciated the ability to merge the exterior beauty – an exceptional natural environment – with the interior space, located on one of the top floors of a building. This effect was enhanced by the use of large windows, the loft-like openness of the space and the use of shiny white colours that, like a canvas, let the landscape shine even brighter.

The influence of nature is also evident in the choice of sustainable and healthy materials used to dress the house. In this sense, the joinery is made from imported solid wood veneer, free of formaldehyde, in order to create a pollution-free environment. In addition, Dekton, a non-toxic and carbon neutral material throughout its life cycle, was used for a number of applications.

Among them, its use in flooring stands out, for which the chosen colour was Natura, a shade capable of creating a distinctive and opulent look that replicates the quintessential style of marble with a soft grey veining that enhances its classic white background with a lustrous polished finish. The glassy reflection of this striking colour is achieved thanks to a unique nanotechnology-based treatment and mechanical polishing, which results in a glass-like gloss that is one of the core features of Chung-Yang Hsieh’s design.

Dekton was also used for the bedroom desk and the bathroom and kitchen worktops, for which the colour Uyuni was chosen. The choice of this colour also responds to the idea of a ‘clean’ canvas which, thanks to its powerful white shade, allows nature outside to be the main feature. Uyuni’s white shade takes its inspiration from the most iconic natural salt flat on the planet and embodies the very essence of purity and vastness thanks to its cool, crystalline tones.

Dekton also contributes to another of the objectives of this interior design: to create a comfortable, “user-friendly” space that is adapted to the family that inhabits it, made up of a couple with children, two cats and a dog for whom easy maintenance was a must-have.

This is another reason why Dekton, an antibacterial stone that resists stains, is virtually non-porous and does not scratch easily, was chosen for so many applications in this award-winning home, where design, sustainability and functionality go hand in hand.
