‘Shades of harmony is the search for the sensation of calm, the slight variation in tone, proportion and concordance, exploring the coming together and blending of differences, but in harmony,’ is how Javier Tomás, from Juka Interiorismo, describes the space he designed for the 31st edition of Casa Decor.

The aim of this space is to play with the combination of asymmetrical lines and pure lines. On the fibre carpet covering the floor, there is a 16 cm step from the first part to the back of the room, creating an L-shaped path with curved ends. Dekton Kira, in an earthy colour with fine light grey veins and a matt texture, was used throughout the floor and partition in a thickness of 12 mm.

Above the step is a planter consisting of a tree and some vegetation. Then, on a higher level, a raked sand garden surrounds a subtly designed fireplace, all clad in Dekton Kira, in this case the 4 mm thick Dekton Slim format. The studio selected this colour for its high resistance to scratches and stains and for its earthy grey hue, inspired by the elegance of Gris Pulpis stone. The fine veins that naturally run through the block and the soft, matt texture give it a timeless design.

At the top of the raised platform is a sitting room with gilded and shearling armchairs and double-height onyx tables in the centre. To one side, there is a small side table in natural wood with a black finish and a reading light on top.

The whole ambience is harmonised by a back wall with asymmetrical shapes, with an arch in which the window that lets in natural light is finished in black, a blind and a double-weave linen side curtain that changes tone at the base. All the walls and the ceiling are made of clay mortar.

On the wall behind the fireplace there are some wall lights in the shape of a head bathed in clay, which emit a warm light. This is followed by an indirect lighting pendant panel in natural oak slats arranged in a curved pattern and stained in a light brown tone.

On the front wall, there are curved ledges that reveal curved brass-plated steel shelves. One of these, the widest, has a shelf made from Sensa Vancouver, a Brazilian quartzite with a white background against which various shades of grey flow gently. This stone, also featured in the door jambs, is part of Cosentino’s stain-resistant natural stone collection.

On the wall of the raised platform, the back of the head of the opposite wall lights appears as a sculpture, and a solid wooden pole supports a warm blanket for this area, which invites you to spend a pleasant time reading. Between the junction of the curved walls and the ceiling is a completely asymmetrical indirect lighting false ceiling made up of 35 curves. As for the lighting, we could say that it is zoned by means of mini bulbs that illuminate the parts that need to be highlighted,’ continues the designer.

Cosentino was a key element in the design of the space, he says: ‘Our project features Dekton Kira and Sensa Vancouver. In choosing Kira, we were looking for timelessness. In addition, it is easy to work with, cut and adapt, very strong and easy to handle during assembly and disassembly. Vancouver, on the other hand, is a natural material with a texture and colour that makes you fall in love with it. It is a quartzite that has been fully adapted to our cutting shapes and thicknesses, giving it a warm, natural look and a unique resistance to staining.’

For the project, Javier opted for fine materials such as natural oak, clay mortar, fibres and textiles, combined with brass-plated steel and ultra-compact Dekton stone and Sensa quartzite, both from Cosentino.
