Is it possible to renovate a house without having to carry out any building work? Yes, as the latest work by the Paralela architecture, interior design and design studio in Almería shows. “Naturalising a house and making it your own means transforming every corner of your home without having to carry out major building work,” say the studio’s members.

In order to transform this home, the professionals chose wallpaper, wood, natural fabrics and Cosentino surfaces to craft a space that exudes a cosy, homely atmosphere, while maintaining a touch of sophistication and modern flair. “We made sure that every corner was full of life, using materials that added value,” they recall.

The worktop and island are both finished in Dekton Rem, a luxurious colour inspired by one of the most elegant white marbles. The detailed design of its brown and grey veins, with touches of gold, enhances the sobriety and almost linear structure of Calacatta marble, from which it draws inspiration.

Despite its similar appearance, Dekton is much easier to maintain than marble. This innovative ultracompact surface resists stains (even acids) and is unaffected by tools such as knives – you can even cut directly on it – and the impact of kitchen utensils. It also easily withstands hot pans taken straight from the hob without the slightest damage because Dekton is designed to withstand high temperatures, including fire, and is impervious to the effects of extreme cold.

A damp cloth is all that’s needed to keep the worktop and island in perfect condition in this home. The fireplace is also easy to maintain, as Paralela chose to clad it in Dekton Rem, taking advantage of its fire-resistant properties. This choice promotes a harmonious coherence between the living room and the kitchen, which flow seamlessly into each other.

The cladding of large-format Dekton panels forms a striking furniture feature in the living room, complete with niches for displaying decorative items. The new furniture lends character to the room, with its velvet finish adding interest and texture. “The combination of these elements, together with the meticulous control of processes and costs, has resulted in an inviting project,” concludes the Paralela studio.
