It is like being in a hotel suite, these designs exude luxury and comfort. After years of designing homes for others, Nathalie Swinkels, Studio Zuyd, finally finished a masterpiece: here own home. What started as a renovation project, turned out to be the villa of her dreams. At least, it gives you that feeling because even though it is a city house, it has the feeling of luxury and comfort of a villa.

“As a designer i have the privilege to create the most outstanding interiors for others. You have the knowledge of the most beautiful materials and brands that makes you want to live there yourself, at least i do. With this house, it became reality!”

Together with her Husband, Nathalie bought a renovation project just on the edge of Utrecht’s city center that is now unrecognizable: a house where comfort predominates and exudes the ultimate hotel feeling, “after a long day of work, it gives us peace.”

Besides that, it is a wonderful place o live, it serves more than just as ‘home’. “What better way to present your portfolio then using you own house? I want to inspire future clients, this way they get to know my style, level of detail and the materials such as Dekton, whit which i like to work. In addition to my home, it also serves as showroom and design studio.”

Unique & Bold

When opening social media, you are overloaded with dark shades, combined with a marble look. Not very innovative, if you ask Studio Zuyd. A light colour palette with marvellous, outspoken materials that are just a bit bolder than the standard choices people often make. When entering this house, you are overloaded with Dekton Khalo. The Patagonian pattern combines perfectly with a pallet of light shade colours, which creates a perfect harmony.

Eyecatcher

The real eyecatcher is the ensuite bathroom, which gives you real hotel vibes. With a view from the bed on the iconic walk-in shower, it is the centrepiece of the first floor. The full slab application is perfectly mounted which makes the seams disappear.

From the design in 3D to the elaboration of the technical drawings, the development of this dream project was entirely done in-house by Studio Zuyd. They chose Khalo for the bathroom, which forms the starting point for the entire house. “I always follow my gut feeling and i use material that can be reproduced throughout the entire project. Dekton was the first material i chose when designing my house.”

Outstanding performances

“I need something that is vandal-proof and has minimal maintenance. The big slabs in the bathroom nearly have any visible seams, giving it the appearance of real marble, but with the advantages of Dekton.” From a bathroom design, a washbasin, furniture to a kitchen worktop, a TV cabinet to a detail in the wardrobe, Dekton fills the space in every room. “The possibilities for application are endless, it is easy to maintain, and it is just as strong and scratch resistant everywhere!”
