A large family, the kitchen as the heart and soul of the home and a renovation in sight. This was the tough challenge faced by the María Conesa interior design studio, which masterfully met the programme’s requirement: to create a tidy home in which to relax every day at the end of the day. “They were looking for a warm, cosy home to enjoy, to share with family and to welcome guests, with all the necessary amenities at a structural level,” she says. The studio was responsible for the entire interior architecture, decoration and style of the house.

As for the layout of this house in Murcia, “the aim was to create a functional space with materials that are highly resistant to stains and daily use, and that are also easy to maintain and clean.” The kitchen was the key space, as it would be in constant use and needed to be full of character without losing any of its functionality or aesthetics.

The heart and soul of the home

“The kitchen is the key space in the project because of its daily use,” Conesa further says. With an open plan, it is connected to the living room, making the total space very large, “so it was decided to organise it around three key areas: the worktop, the island and the breakfast bar.” Consequently, both the material and the finish had to be carefully chosen.

The choice was clear from the start. Dekton Entzo was chosen as the star of the space, acting as a guiding thread for these elements and also as a wall cladding in several places. “Among the more than 60 colours available for the ultra-compact Cosentino stone, Dekton Entzo is a classic. Inspired by Calacatta Gold marble, Dekton Entzo features an almost pristine white background crossed by veins of gold and ochre that breathe realism through their random pattern.

The technical properties of Cosentino’s ultra-compact stone made it a safe bet for a house like this, which is constantly exposed to the daily traffic and use of a large family with different routines and needs. “The choice of the same design for all kitchen applications and the availability of Dekton in large format slabs has resulted in a visual continuity that brings order to the space,” says the designer.

An inviting design with a Mediterranean touch

The design of the kitchen is timeless and welcoming, with white and wood dominating the space and a Mediterranean touch through the use of this material in the floor, chairs and furniture. An ideal aesthetic combination that is perfectly complemented by the large windows that let in the light and the plants used to add a touch of colour.

“The kitchen is the space where the whole family comes together, so it was crucial to choose the right materials for its design, knowing exactly what we wanted them to do. In this case, we have achieved a functional and beautiful space thanks in part to the use of Dekton surfaces,” Conesa concludes.
