Eduardo Sainz and Lilian Glayna, directors of the renowned Brazilian studio SAINZ Arquitetura, have masterfully created this exquisite duplex in Brasilia, which epitomises modern home luxury by blurring the boundaries between indoor and outdoor spaces. To achieve this, the choice of materials has been a key factor.
“Our proposed layout focuses on the functional separation of spaces, providing a clear division between private, semi-private and social areas,” the studio explains. In this 600-square-metre, three-storey house, the leitmotiv was not only to beautify it, but also to make life easier and more comfortable for its inhabitants, a young couple with two daughters.
Each area and feature is designed to delight the senses, and this is where the materials come into play. From the impressive spiral staircase with its sculptural form that dominates the dwelling, to the large terrace with swimming pool on the intermediate level and the gourmet area. Elegance and luxury are not at odds with playfulness.
The elegant sandy shades of Dekton Danae create a unified look both inside and out
“We have responded to our customers’ requests to use the best materials available on the market, and that is why we have chosen Dekton by Cosentino. In our experience, it is the best option internationally in terms of durability and maintenance,” say the architects. Since its launch in 2013, the ultra-compact Dekton stone has revolutionised the world of architecture and design with its endless application possibilities.
In this case, the subtle sandy tones of Dekton Danae permeate everything from the walls to the bathrooms, and are particularly noticeable and present on the floors, which act as a vast beige canvas to give unity to the project. Dekton surfaces extend from the interior to the exterior, where the innovative and advanced non-slip treatment comes into its own if you have a swimming pool and young children at home.
This choice has allowed the architects to create a neutral base that is punctuated with carefully designed pieces and splashes of colour, such as the metal spiral staircase covered in the same synthetic stone. A subdued yet warm finish that creates a calming atmosphere.
Dekton Sirius and Dekton Laurent textures raise the bar
“We also opted for the ultra-compact Dekton by Cosentino stone, cut into 140 cm slabs, to cover all the worktops in the bathrooms, kitchen and gourmet area, among other features,” they continue. Thanks to the wide range of Dekton colours, the architects played with two other colours. For the more social part of the house, the kitchen and gourmet space, they chose the textured feel of black with greenish hues of Dekton Sirius, while for the more private areas, the bathrooms, they went for the dark shades with golden veins of Dekton Laurent.
Dekton Sirius and Dekton Laurent mesh well together, establishing a dialogue between these two areas which, although very different in purpose, have something in common: their routine use. In these heavy-duty applications, the ultra-compact nature of Dekton stone is the key to high durability and versatility. For their customers to really enjoy this duplex, they needed to ensure that concerns such as scratching, staining, fire, heat and impact would not be a problem. No sooner said than done.
