The Hotel Molise 2 is a 3-star establishment located in the centre of Milan (Italy) with a long history. When the hotel decided to update its appearance, it turned to Gruppo Tre Architetti Associati, who opted for Dekton slabs to clad the façade.
“The most interesting aspect of the project is the combination of light-coloured slabs and dark window frames, which create an attractive visual contrast and give the building a modern and sophisticated look,” the studio says.
“This colour contrast also adds visual depth to the façade, highlighting the contours of the slabs and creating a modern feel. The metal elements are smooth and uniform, giving the façade a clean and minimalist look.”
Dekton Kreta and Dekton Laos for a renewed look with an industrial touch
Inspired by traditional cement floors, Dekton Kreta – one of the colours used for the cladding of the building – features a homogeneous and restrained design, although it includes darker or lighter areas depending on the density of the pattern. In addition, its matt texture and grey shade match all types of materials, giving the building a sense of serenity.
To continue the colour scheme used in the window area, the studio decided to use Dekton Laos for the ground floor, where the reception area is located. With its dark and weathered tone, this stone reflects the personality of industrial design, reinterpreting it and showing its most innovative and modern side. Its grey veining and warm tones give it great appeal, and together with its soft matt finish, make it the ideal choice for creating contemporary spaces.
Now, thanks to this intervention, the Hotel Molise 2 offers a more up-to-date image, which is enhanced by the LED lighting designed by Gruppo Tre Architetti Associati: “To complement the overall appearance of the façade, the lighting was carefully designed to highlight the textures of the façade at night. Strategically placed LED lighting helps to create plays of light and shadow that enhance the natural beauty of the stone,”they say.
“The colour scheme designed by the architects took into account the building’s setting, as they wanted to give it a modern look but without detaching it from its surroundings,” the studio says.
Better energy performance and durability: the other advantages of Dekton for façades
But the improvements made were not limited to its appearance: the new ventilated façade of the building optimises ventilation and solar protection throughout the year, thus reducing energy costs and CO2 emissions. In addition to this, Dekton is an excellent thermal and acoustic insulator, which has a positive impact on the energy management of the building.
Furthermore, its high resistance to UV rays, scratches, frost, thawing and even fire, together with its low water absorption rate, ensure a pristine appearance for many years to come. After all, it is not for nothing that this Cosentino product comes with a 25-year warranty. This surface, which combines low maintenance and a long service life, is also beneficial to the environment.
“We chose Dekton for its almost natural texture, its intrinsic beauty, its strength and its ability to give the building a refined appearance,” the studio says. “The material proved to be versatile, quick to install and suitable for giving the building a modern look,” they say finally.
