Interior design professionals are beginning to turn their attention to Singapore in search of interesting proposals from local studios. One such team, led by Erika Rugdee and known as Apex Studios, specialises in creating warm and inviting yet contemporary spaces. Today we have the opportunity to visit one such space – a haven of tranquillity amidst the hustle and bustle of the city, showcasing warm minimalism. Neutral tones and different textures reign supreme, creating a serene harmony and demonstrating the coexistence of luxury and simplicity. The project is an ode to quality materials and thoughtful design, with particular emphasis on the use of Cosentino’s Dekton Entzo, an ultra-compact stone that embodies durability and timeless beauty.
As with all interior design projects, the main challenge was to optimise the layout and maximise the available space. “The project required creative design solutions to overcome space constraints and ensure the kitchen was both functional and visually appealing,” stresses the Apex Studio team. Beyond the layout, the studio notes that the customers also required effective integration of the new elements with the existing ones. “It was all about integrating current design trends while ensuring the longevity of the space, which can be tricky. The challenge was to find a balance between incorporating trendy elements that the customer might want and choosing timeless elements that would not go out of fashion quickly,” they say.
Combining functionality with aesthetics
The choice of Cosentino materials, in particular Dekton Entzo, was crucial in achieving the desired balance between trendiness and timelessness. “We opted for Dekton because it combines a classic design that never goes out of style with great durability,” explains Apex Studio. Dekton’s resistance to scratches, stains and extreme temperatures makes it the perfect partner for a high-traffic kitchen, offering timeless aesthetics and unparalleled functionality. As a result, the material not only adorns the sculptural kitchen island, but it is also used as a splashback on the kitchen wall and surrounds the sink.
Dekton’s low porosity makes it easy to clean and maintain, a key benefit in homes where the kitchen is used extensively. “In homes where there is a lot of activity and multiple users in the kitchen, as there is here, it is essential to ensure that the room looks as immaculate as it did on the first day our customers moved in. Dekton’s stain resistance and ease of cleaning play an important role in achieving this goal, providing a durable and visually appealing surface that can withstand the rigours of daily use,” says the studio. Spaces featuring Dekton outlast passing trends.
The collaboration with Cosentino was described by Apex Studio as “exceptionally rewarding”, thanks to the versatility and wide range of colours and finishes offered by Dekton. This project demonstrates how careful selection of materials can enrich the design, provide creative freedom and ensure that each element contributes meaningfully to the whole. “Reliable support throughout the process, from selection to installation, underlines Cosentino’s commitment to customer satisfaction,” they conclude.
