Home to Yorkshire Housing Association, The Place is Yorkshire’s first zero carbon workspace. With sustainability, innovation and technology at the project’s core, all 930 m2 of the building were renovated by commercial interior design firm Ingo Interiors. Tasked with creating a dynamic space that disrupted the traditional office archetype, The Place is purposefully non-conformative, setting out to be the blueprint for the ‘future of workspaces.
According to the Director of Ingo Interiors Jenny McVey, every design decision made was carefully thought through to create an accessible workspace for all - with layout, materials, textures and furniture all chosen to complement physical and neuro diversity. With the goal of improving the wellbeing of its inhabitants, The Place needed to be a light and airy collaborative space, with the aim of bringing people together.
As part of the wider project’s sustainability drive, only products that boasted genuine eco credentials were specified. Every material picked has its own story but are all united by the fact they have as limited an impact on the environment as possible. Selected for its carbon neutral properties, the kitchen and communal worksurfaces chosen were Silestone by Cosentino.
The Sunlit Days collection from Silestone
The Sunlit Days collection from Silestone is the first carbon neutral collection in the hybrid mineral surfaces industry. Created with the exclusive and pioneering Hybriq+ technology, the manufacturing process uses 99% reused water from the production processes, 100% renewable electric energy and a minimum of 20% recycled raw materials in its composition. Hybriq+ technology also stands out for its new formula, which significantly reduces the presence of crystalline silica – instead using a formula made up of mineral raw materials and of a recycled origin. All CO2 emissions are offset from the entire life cycle of the Sunlit Days series, making it a truly sustainable choice.
Inspired by the warm tones of the Mediterranean, the collection of five earthy tones celebrates a connection with nature through colour. Inspired by human values and simple, profound ways of living, the Sunlit Days collection was the perfect partner for The Place given the project’s desire to ground and connect people together. Silestone Posidonia Green was chosen for this project; a soft, serene green full of light that elegantly illuminates spaces and adds harmony to any room.
Commenting on specifying Cosentino, Jenny McVey continues, ‘Silestone was an obvious choice for this project given its impressive carbon neutral properties. The collection’s colour range also gave us maximum creative freedom in being able to inject authentic colour into the space. This collection ticked every box for us given the availability of larger formats with no grout lines, contributing to a great final aesthetic.’
The Place was awarded a Mixology Award for the project with most ‘Positive Impact’, aligning with Cosentino’s wider ESG strategy of leaving maximum impact on people but a minimum one on the planet.
