Located on the vibrant seafront promenade of Garrucha, Almería, known as El Malecón, two penthouses have been renovated to capture the essence of the Mediterranean through contemporary, minimalist design punctuated with a touch of modern rustic charm. Activa Arquitectos, led by Maricruz Alonso Alastrué and Luis Durbán García, has been the creative force behind this project, redefining the concept of a summer home.
The complete renovation project has focused on creating spaces that exude a Mediterranean style and a refreshing atmosphere, perfect for enjoying during the hottest months of the year. To achieve this, a wide range of Cosentino materials were carefully selected, with DKTN Albarium at the heart of the project. This material not only runs throughout the floors of both penthouses, but also enhances the interior cladding in the bathrooms and service areas, blending seamlessly with the coastal environment.
An ode to the Mediterranean, with Silestone and DKTN as a common thread
The kitchens and bathrooms pay homage to the Mediterranean Sea using colours such as Silestone Cala Blue and Silestone Posidonia Green. In one of the bathrooms, an intriguing decorative wall in backlit Scalea Patagonia natural stone leads to the living area and leaves us in awe.
Tranquillity reigns in the bedrooms, which serve as the project’s sanctuaries of relaxation. This sense of calm is achieved through the careful selection of tones, materials and textures. On the ground floor, the bedrooms are decorated with the golden and grey veins of Silestone Ethereal Glow. On the top floor, however, they have a different character: one of them features the elegant DKTN Rem.
As part of a coherent design concept, all the shower trays and washbasins in the penthouses are finished in ultra-compact DKTN stone or Silestone, a hybrid surface made from premium minerals and recycled materials. These materials have also been used to clad the kitchens, ensuring not only a consistent style but also optimum functionality due to their exceptional strength and durability.
A universe of design possibilities
The Activa Arquitectos studio highlights how convenient it is to work with Cosentino materials and the enormous range of possibilities they offer, making it easy to find the perfect material to match the desired style.
The flexibility of using these materials for almost all the cladding in the house has allowed for a harmonious and cohesive integration. To complement and add warmth, decorative wallpapers in natural fibres have been introduced to provide continuity and create cosy, vibrant spaces.
These penthouses, commissioned by Transportes Isabel Alonso, are a testament to the harmonious coexistence of modernity and Mediterranean style; they are the ideal choice for a second home that invites relaxation by the sea. With Activa Arquitectos at the helm and Cosentino materials as their main allies, this renovation project has been a resounding success, exuding the essence of summer, freshness and quality from every angle.
