The lightness of Dekton, the aesthetics of concrete

In the Vitania skyscraper in Tel Aviv, which houses a showroom for Mazda and Ford cars, a new part has been added to the office area. The building boasts a multi-storey atrium with a huge multimedia screen, which overlooks the street and occupies the full height of the space.

For the cladding of this new part, the idea was to use a material suitable for working with large, thin slabs. It also had to be aesthetically pleasing and blend in well with the concrete finish of the rest of the tower.

Therefore, the material chosen was Dekton Slim in Soke colour, with an ultra-thin thickness of 4mm. This colour is part of the Industrial Collection and is inspired by classic cement, perfect for the modern finish that the architect wanted to achieve.

A skyscraper with a focus on sustainability

Vitania is an office tower situated in Tel Aviv, Israel. With its 17 storeys and 19,500m2 built above ground – plus 3 storeys of parking below ground level – it rises majestically above a beautiful green area. Not surprisingly, the tower meets the strictest technical specifications and sustainability criteria to save energy and money, challenges that the BREEM-certified Dekton has helped to overcome.

Visually, the building has a luxurious lobby and offers its users the possibility to configure the office according to their needs. The building is attractive for its simplicity, achieved in part by the use of concrete and clean, straight lines. In the new part, the walls, floors and doors of the lobby were clad with Dekton, achieving greater uniformity. ‘The building itself is a contemporary building and the desire was to convey modernity and cleanliness, both in the main lobby and throughout the floor. The colour we chose (Soke) perfectly matches the experience we were looking for,’ explains Elad Cohen, architect at Alex Meitlis Architecture and Design.

In addition, as a certified fire-resistant material, Dekton helped to provide the extra safety required for a colossal building such as the Vitania Tower.

Large-scale passive building

The Innovation Technological Center (ITC) is a newly built building located within the AEC Illuminazione headquarters, where research and development work is carried out. The building has a surface area of 26,500 m2 and was designed by the Milanese architectural studio SBGA Blengini Ghirardelli, who based their design on pure, simple geometric lines. The heart of the project, known as “The Lab”, is formed by the intersection of two parallelepipeds in which, over an area of 3,000 m2, technicians and researchers work together in a space designed to encourage collaboration.

One of the most eye-catching features of this project is its northern façade. This façade, made of large-format Dekton Domoos slabs and with a surface area of 1,100 m2, is one of the largest Dekton façades in Europe. The cladding was installed on the ventilated façade using a Keil fixed anchoring system. The choice of material was based on the company’s sustainability criteria and the purpose of insulating the building from high temperatures.

Dekton Domoos is a finish from the Solid Collection. It is a dark, almost black shade, available in large format slabs (320cm x 144cm), which is ideal for outdoors and large surfaces and perfect for a ventilated façade.

In line with the company’s philosophy

The ITC building is the best example of AEC’s philosophy of innovation and automation. AEC’s business vision and investment decisions continually seek innovative solutions in the lighting of public spaces. The building creates an interesting relationship between the exterior and interior. The landscape outside serves as inspiration to create a relaxing atmosphere. The double-height entrance and the glazed façade provide a light-filled space where natural light prevails. Everything was designed with the wellbeing of employees in mind and nothing here is reminiscent of a traditional factory concept.

The building was built on three levels. On the ground and first floors, where tests and experiments are carried out under extreme environmental conditions, a series of double and triple height laboratories were set up from the mezzanine floor, from which it is possible to safely monitor the tests. The research offices are on the third floor. The clean, geometric lines continue on this floor. The building is completed by a skylight roof that brings light into the centre of the workspace. The technical systems and photovoltaic panels are located above the roof, concealed by a cornice, rounding off the project.

The most innovative and sustainable materials combined with avant-garde architecture have come together to create the ITC, which has become AEC’s best calling card.

The shop “Busted” gets a new look

Busted is a fashion shop for young people located in the main shopping area of Silkeborg, in northern Denmark. The shop needed an update to attract a younger and more demanding clientele. During this refurb process, both the façade and the shop window played a key role in attracting customers to the shop.

Busted's owners commissioned architect Morten Thomsen, founder of MMe Byg Aps, to undertake the renovation and interior design project. Thomsen invested time in researching different cladding solutions that could radically change the Busted façade. In his search, he had the good fortune to come across Cosentino's Project Manager for the region, who introduced him to the Dekton brand and its countless benefits for façade applications.

Morten was impressed with the 8mm thick slabs, which allow for on-site handling and processing, as well as the use of an invisible adhesive for fixing.

You can’t go wrong with Dekton Danae

MMe Byg Aps studio wanted a colour that would appeal to Busted’s target customers: women with a youthful, casual style, and within a fairly broad age range. From the very beginning, Dekton Danae was a favourite finish because of its brightness and timeless character. Its availability in large format slabs- 320 x 144 cm - and in two textures - grip and matt - were two highly valued aspects in the final choice. After all, it is not for nothing that this is one of Cosentino’s best sellers.

The new Busted shop, which opened in spring 2021, now looks spectacular on one of Silkeborg's most popular shopping streets. Long-time customers are delighted with the change and, more importantly, the new look is attracting a new clientele who had never thought of coming.

The renovation of the Busted shop is yet another example of the importance of design in public spaces in commercial terms. It also illustrates how quickly the investment is recouped when the project is well planned and you work with a partner like Cosentino.

A ‘facelift’ for Westfield Newmarket

Westfield Newmarket shopping centre in central Auckland, New Zealand, reopened in August 2019. After 18 months of construction work, this shopping centre, which dates back to the 1980s, reopened its doors with a new look, 230 shops and 2,800 parking spaces.

The project involved the renovation and extension of the existing building, doubling its previous size and quadrupling the number of shops. After many months of work and an investment of 790 million dollars, the updated Newmarket rises majestically between 277 and 309 Broadway Street.

It was clear to the team of architects from the Scentre Group, the project developer, that the façade would play a key role in the renovation process. In addition to becoming the most eye-catching design feature, it had to incorporate the latest technology in terms of energy efficiency. A ventilated façade therefore appeared to be the most suitable choice. And for this ventilated façade, there was no better partner than Dekton.

The installation was carried out by the Eurotherm Facades NZ team. Two anchoring systems were used in the process: the Etem Alum Systemand the Keil Anchor. The technical support from Cosentino's headquarters in Spain was key to the successful execution, providing a prompt and professional advisory service whenever requested.

Sandy-coloured Dekton Danae

The new ventilated façade features 700m2 of 12mm Dekton Danae slabs. In addition to its clean, fresh look, Dekton Danae contrasts with the black window frames and the large glass surfaces.

Dekton Danae is a colour from the Natural collection that is reminiscent of the movement of sand. It is one of Cosentino's best-sellers as it works perfectly in almost any space. Furthermore, being a neutral colour, it is full of nuances that ensure its versatility and say goodbye to boredom.

In the case of the Westfield Newmarket shopping centre, this effect of movement is the result not only of the richness of the material -Dekton Danae- but also of its clever cutting: all along the façade, in a continuous pattern, one larger row is placed every four rows of slabs.

This feat of design aims to bring the Newmarket in line with the district where it is located: a thriving and trendy shopping area with the best tapas bars, the most alternative art galleries and the most authentic Maori arts and crafts.

The challenge of irregular shapes

CulinaryOn is an immersive cooking studio for team-building activities founded in Moscow and has branches in Poland, Romania, and now, Singapore. Completed in four months, CulinaryOn Singapore occupies a 4,000-square-meter, fan-shaped trapezoidal unit in Robertson Quay, Singapore.

The designers turned this challenging, irregular shape into an opportunity to present a dynamic configuration with moving benches and workstations that can be easily adjusted according to the users’ needs.

Design curves created to endure

The concept of CulinaryOn’s interior design likens culinary journey to a theatrical performance. Thus, the space is designed like a stage and Cosentino is featured front and centre in this culinary stage.

The space is divided into three studios, which are separated from one another by operable panels that can be folded away to merge the spaces as needed. Each studio is anchored by a U-shaped chef’s table with a cooking station at its centre, featuring sleek black Dekton Domoos and Dekton Sirius.

Several movable cooking stations are set around these chef’s table. Each station features cranberry red base paired with Dekton Korus worktop, presenting a smooth, solid grey surface with white veins perfect for culinary experiments.

A curvy bar unites the three studios. Clad in brushed copper and solid teal colour, the bar is finished with Silestone Desert Silver.

Designed by Wilson Associates, Haidilao’s newest outlet at Marina Square mall presents an exceptionally futuristic dining experience with a personalised menu, immersive dining experience with sound and light projection, and robot servers, on top of its signature services.

The restaurant’s theatrical dining experience requires a sound design built with high quality, durable material, hence the designer’s choice to use Dekton and Silestone in its busiest areas. The interior design incorporates no less than 180 slabs of Dekton Soke and 10 slabs of Silestone Desert Silver, with a total of 806 sqm and 50 sqm of surfaces, respectively.

A fresh new look for a classic style establishment

The patisserie Glea, run by the young chef Abel Bravo and located in the historic centre of Murcia, first opened its doors in November 2020. It is housed in a traditional establishment, at number 4 Barrionuevo Street, and sells innovative and distinctive sweet treats, with a focus on fresh ingredients.

Although the establishment is housed in a classic style building, its renovation conveys innovation and modernity, in line with the values of the new patisserie. For this, interior designer Alexia Martínez, together with architect Pedro Francisco, has relied on Dekton for the renovation process.

For the flooring, the chosen material was Dekton Kreta, from the Industrial collection. Inspired by polished concrete, Dekton Kreta evokes a seamless effect, making it perfect for use as a base colour to be combined with bold finishes. For the tables, the interior designer has opted for Dekton Kelya, a material inspired by dark marble which features light veins and creates a very unique atmosphere.

Impressive display counter in Dekton Bergen

The focal point of this establishment is undoubtedly its large display counter designed as if it were a monolithic totem. This starring effect is achieved in two ways: firstly, by placing the finest sweets in Murcia within easy reach; secondly, by choosing a material with a strong visual presence and character such as Dekton Bergen.

Dekton Bergen is part of the Dekton Stonika collection. Inspired by natural Portobello stone, it is reminiscent of Greek sculptures, with marked greyish veins on an off-white base. When used on the display counter, it greatly enhances the presentation of products, elevating the sweets to the status of almost divine delicacies.

Interestingly, the name of the patisserie, Glea, means “land” in Murcian Spanish, an allusion to the importance of using local ingredients and products. This philosophy fits perfectly with that of Dekton by Cosentino, committed to sustainability and certified as a carbon neutral product for its entire life cycle.

A buffet counter to tempt the appetite as well as the eye

The Ritz-Carlton Abama is a five-star resort in Tenerife, the island of eternal spring. It is the perfect place to rest and relax while enjoying excellent guest service, in line with the philosophy of The Ritz-Carlton chain. With this purpose in mind, the renovation of one of its restaurants, “La Veranda”, was carried out in 2019.

The hotel has an extensive gastronomic offer with eight different restaurants, some of which have been awarded several Michelin stars. “La Veranda” is dedicated to breakfast and pop-up proposals. Therefore, this restaurant is equipped with large buffet counters where the food is beautifully presented and live cooking is performed.

During the modernisation project of the restaurant, led by Gregory de Clerck, all worktops were replaced with a single material: Dekton Olimpo. The result is a clear, relaxed and elegant atmosphere, in contrast to the warmth of the wood used in the dining area. Dekton Olimpo is a material from the Stonika collection inspired by Carrara marble. Its white colour with grey veins adds character and enhances the look of the restaurant.

The resistance of Dekton in cooking areas

Dekton can withstand the most extreme temperatures, such as hot cookware just taken off the hob. Furthermore, Cosentino's ultra-compact surface offers high resistance to scratches and aggressive chemicals, as well as almost zero porosity. Dekton worktops, with a 25-year warranty, were the best technical solution for the renovation of the buffet area.

From an aesthetic point of view, Dekton also had many advantages. The large format slabs (320 cm x 144 cm) create continuous, seamless surfaces that are more beautiful and easier to keep clean. These extra large slabs are ideal for worktops as big as those of “La Veranda”. Furthermore, the variety of thicknesses available (from 3 cm to 0.4 cm) multiplies the design possibilities allowing, for example, the same material to be used for worktops and kitchen cabinet doors.

The result is a sublime finish, beautiful and functional at the same time, ideal for surprising guests and making breakfast a first class experience.

Dekton, an aesthetic and functional solution

A strong local identity is important to Clientis Bank in Oberuzwil. The distinctive reception counter demonstrates this claim. With its precisely formed facets, it connects the aesthetics of the surrounding Appenzeller Alps with the trust customers place in the business. The high-quality surface consists of ultra-compact Dekton from Cosentino.

Switzerland is famous for its financial industry. Around 260 financial institutions are based in the alpine republic, from global players to local financial providers who, like Clientis Bank, take care of small and mid-sized companies, institutions and private clients with their particularly customer-focused service. When the regional bank in Oberuzwil moved into a new building, 85d Innenarchitektur was commissioned to design the interior.

“The walls and floors in the open reception area are very bright, with a warm, soft lighting effect”, says Silvan Derungs, an interior designer at 85d. “Although the overall architectural concept is understated in terms of style and colour, the reception area is a striking focal point. The crystalline form reflects the values and strong foundation of the bank, which is situated at the foot of the nearby Säntis and Churfirsten mountains".

Image of Clientis 2 scaled 1.jpg?auto=format%2Ccompress&ixlib=php 3.3 in Clientis Bank - Cosentino

Reflecting values and security

“Customers can be welcomed quickly and easily at two tiered counter levels”, explains carpenter Luzio Egli. “We co-ordinated the features and measurements with 85d using a 1:1 sample, on-site, exactly to the requirements of customers and bank staff. Fixtures mounted on the cabinet provide places for customers’ personal items and handbags. In addition, it was also important to integrate electric lift tables and safes on the advisors’ side.”

For durable, high-quality and easy-care furniture, Clientis agreed to the recommendation to use Dekton by Cosentino in the colour “Galema” for the surface. Dekton consists entirely of natural minerals, which are combined in a sintering process under high pressure and heat. The UV-resistant, solid-coloured and ultra-compact material is available in sizes up to 324 x 147 cm and thicknesses from 0.4 to 2 cm.

Distinctive hallmark

“The main obstacle was constructing the complex furniture in such a way so that the surface and cabinet have a monolithic texture and colour, and all components sit exactly flush,” explains Egli. During the renovation work, the Dekton panels for the FEINHARD surfaces were cut to a custom design and profile for the 3.46 m², 1.2 cm thick counter surface. In just a few days, this was placed and fitted to the cabinet, which was as yet untreated.

Next, the furniture was disassembled once again in order to complete the beautifully textured painting on the front panels. Finally, the “marriage” between the cabinet and the surface took place on-site, at the bank. The extensive and detailed preparations paid off: The front panel and DEKTON surfaces are perfectly matched. The homogeneous surfaces and high-precision edge details make the reception counter a distinctive trademark.
