Silestone H-Line, easy maintenance for a heavy-duty washbasin

Scandic The Reef is more than just a hotel. Its attractions and facilities which are typical of a water park plus its Caribbean decor, offer a completely unique experience to visitors. Everything at Scandic The Reef is a journey into nature and fun, where you can hear the sound of rushing water around every corner. This tranquillity is also present in the cloakrooms, where the H-Line washbasins by Silestone can be found.

The hotel’s interior designers were looking for a material that was both highly resistant and visually appealing. The H-Line washbasins by Silestone, in Aluminio Nube, provide a clean and neat appearance, including features such as mitred edges, which give a smooth finish to the entire structure.

In addition to its beautiful design, Silestone is easy to maintain and clean, it withstands daily use and does not lose its properties or colour consistency over time.

Special from every corner

Located in the wooded area of Lage Vuursche (The Netherlands) you can find Hotel Ernst Sillem Hoeve. This former coach house from 1880 has 85 modern hotel rooms, a restaurant, a swimming pool, an infrared sauna, 2 hotel bars and 20 meeting rooms.

Hotel Ernst Sillem Hoeve combines the grandeur from the past with current modern facilities. In 2018 the restaurant part was renovated. Etienne Bouten, of B+B Interior architecture, took care of the design.

A material to withstand thermal contrasts

The client as well as the interior designer had experienced cooking on Dekton before. A worktop-concept with an invisible induction hob mounted below the Dekton worktop with induction cylinders and cooling plates. This makes direct cooking and cooling on the material possible. The induction hob is invisible for the eye, but when the chef puts a pan on the worktop, he can start cooking. “This gives a bit of a surprise for the guests and a unique experience in the restaurant,” says Etienne Bouten. Next to this, the material is also great for cooling and preserving food.

Cooking on Dekton is a unique concept and guests find it really cool that they can just touch the worktop and it is not hot. This is because after removing the pan, the worktop immediately cools down. For the worktops which are being used for cooking and cooling the hotel chose for the Dekton colour Kelya, a luxurious matte black colour with the look and feel of Spanish marble with light grey veigns.

For the bar, Silestone was chosen in the colors Grey Amazon, an earthy color with lots of movement which gives the bar a warm charisma. For the pantry and high tables Silestone Bianco Rivers was used. This is a luxurious marble look which brings timeless class yet modern charm to the room.

A design to match every surface

In June 2018, the Mediterráneo Bay Hotel & Resort opened its doors after a full refurbishment to celebrate its 25th anniversary. This cornerstone of the Almería hotel industry is located in a peaceful area on the seafront in Roquetas de Mar. With 367 rooms, an enormous lagoon-shaped swimming pool, a second pool with water slides for the little ones, a children’s club, a fitness centre and much more, the Mediterráneo Bay Hotel & Resort is a four-star paradise perfect for a dream holiday.

Cosentino became a trusted partner in this refurbishment process. Its presence can be felt throughout every inch of the common spaces and rooms in the hotel, with materials from its Dekton, Silestone and Natural Stone brands.

The Cosentino family of materials stands out in every detail

The hotel’s main façade, crafted in more than 340 m2 of texturised crema marfil-coloured marble, grabs the visitors’ attention to greet them upon arrival. A water fountain refreshes the traveller’s visual palate next to the façade, also crafted in marble, in a 2 cm texturised Sierra Elvira tone.

The guest arrives at the hotel lobby with the assurance that everything to follow will be sophisticated and in good taste. The lobby’s flooring is made of ultra-compact Dekton surfacing in the Danae colour tone, used in the 157 x 140 x 0.8 cm and 320 x 140 x 0.8 cm formats to guarantee the perfect visual continuity in a spacious and bright environment.

Durable and design-centred refurbishment

The buffet bar was crafted in the Blanco Zeus Suede model of Silestone with a 2 cm thickness. The counters for the other two bars were built with Alaska and Ibiza white marble, respectively. In addition, the dining area leaves guests spellbound, as the entire floor shines with the spectacular effect of the polished Venato Carrara floor covering, in its 40 x 40 x 2 cm format.

After the visual feast of the hotel’s common areas, guests arrive at their room to discover, to their delight, that it follows the same aesthetic theme. The room and bathroom are cladded with polished and bevelled Crema Marfil marble tiles, with the bathroom flooring honed in the same tone and the countertops fashioned in a gorgeous Carrara white marble in the 120 x 60 x 2 cm format.

As a whole, the refurbishment of the Hotel Mediterráneo Park in Almería is a showcase of the design possibilities for the entire line of Cosentino surfaces.

A piece of classicism designed to last

Eye Interior architecture studio had a clear idea from the start. When the restoration of the 140 bathrooms at the First Reisen hotel in Stockholm was initially considered, they knew that Silestone was the perfect solution. They needed a low-absorption, scratch-resistant material with hardly any joins, so that it would not be affected by daily use.

It also had to be beautiful, combining classic with modern touches in the personal and intimate space of a bathroom. Silestone Yukon, with its glossy finish, met these requirements perfectly, providing visual continuity and a tranquil, contemporary style. With its off-white colour and elegant grey tones, the Yukon series enabled the en-suite bathrooms in this centuries-old hotel to be updated.

A centuries-old hotel embraces modern times

In August 2019, the restoration of the First Reisen hotel in Stockholm began. As well as refreshing the communal areas, the project included updating the 140 bedrooms and their en-suite bathrooms. Modernising the installations of this 17th century hotel, without making the least impact on its classical flavour and style, was a big challenge. Eye Interior and Multi Montage were the main players in this huge job, using trusted partners such as Silestone by Cosentino on the vanity tops of all the bathrooms.

The First Reisen is strategically located in central Stockholm, with views over Lake Malar and the Old Town, and a stone’s throw from the Royal Palace. The hotel is a kind of time capsule: seven different buildings, dating from the 17th century to the early 20th century, have been converted into one. It is named after its first owner, the Dutch businessman Fredrik Reiss, who in 1750 opened a coffee house, called Reisen, where the hotel is situated today.

Highly scratch resistant, durable washbasins

Motel L is located in Älvsjö, Sweden, in a strategic location close to Stockholm International Fairs and Congress Centre building. Since its opening in 2014, this motel has been welcoming a large number of guests most of the year round. The developer of this building project, Botrygg AB, realised that the hotel would need the most durable materials to cope with the daily grind of both the common areas and one of the key elements of any room – the bathrooms.

Silestone was the architectural solution chosen for the washbasins in all bathrooms at the Botrygg AB hotel, as it met the main requirement: easy maintenance thanks to its high resistance to scratching and minimal joints, which makes the material extremely durable – Cosentino provides a 25-year warranty for Silestone – and visually appealing.

Minimal porosity to promote hygiene

One of the most challenging aspects of a hotel guest’s experience is the bathroom, an intimate personal grooming space where cleanliness and hygiene must be a priority. This was one of the project requirements that Silestone solved thanks to its reduced porosity, thus making the cleaning and disinfecting process of a highly used surface area such as the washbasin easier.

Botrygg AB aimed to create functional and resistant spaces in a stylish way. Silestone in Negro Tebas, with a polished finish, brings a very unique sense of sophistication to the whole bathroom, offering a range of contrasts in an environment where colours that are very similar to each other usually merge.

Image of Cap Ferrat 6 1.jpg?auto=format%2Ccompress&ixlib=php 3.3 in Cap Ferrat - Cosentino

The Dekton colour chosen for the facade’s cladding was the cream tone Danae due to its elegance and similarity to the colour of the sand on the beach.

In 2017, the hotel chain HIPOTELS opened two new properties at Playa de Palma (Palma de Mallorca). Aimed at foreign tourists, the chain’s key goal is to offer quality properties in unbeatable locations, with personalized service and facilities that exceed the expectations of the market.

Ventilated facade that resists erosion and salt

It has taken the Spanish Court Hotel just 10 years to establish itself as one of the most outstanding properties in the Caribbean, becoming one the top three accommodation options chosen by the public according to specialist travel websites. Among the qualities that make this hotel unique is the characteristic style of its décor, which combines natural elements from the Caribbean surroundings with cutting-edge, modern materials. This is the style that Christopher Issa, owner of the Spanish Court, wanted to maintain and enhance when renovating the hotel in 2019.

“We wanted the hotel to complement the natural beauty of Jamaica,” explains Issa who, alongside his team, searched for the most suitable materials for the project. “The designer wanted a white floor and finding the right one was among our biggest challenges.” Cue Dekton by Cosentino and its wide variety of colours.

Dekton Zenith, the all-encompassing white

The renovation of the Spanish Court Hotel involved refurbishing the luxurious bedrooms and their spectacular bathrooms. The Antrobus + Ramirez studio opted to use 6,967 m2 of the Dekton Zenith colour for this task, as a way to let the light in Jamaica flood into every room. As the owner, Christopher Issa describes the result, “When you walk into the rooms refurbished with Dekton, they feel like a million-dollar suite.”

The Cosentino team, headed by Astor Paz, General Manager at Cosentino Center Fort Lauderdale, provided important guidance when it came to choosing the materials: “We were able to provide help and advice with regard to the installation of the materials. In fact, we spent several days training the team of installers.” The result of this close collaboration is the 1,858 m2 of Dekton used in the hallways, in the Danae shade with the Grip+ anti-slip finish.

Natural stone in the areas dedicated to relaxation and fun

Among the Spanish Court Hotel’s main attractions are the spa areas, where guests can relax and the large pool, designed for fun as well as comfort. In these areas, the designers have sought to maintain a sense of coherence with the surroundings by using Natural Stone, in the Caliza Alba shade for the pool and White Macael for the spa.

Support during the project execution phase

Christopher Issa highlighted how easy it was to work with Cosentino, which not only gave him the opportunity to understand the properties of the materials and to discover the wide range of colours, but also to visit the Cosentino production headquarters in Almería, Spain.

The support we received, both in the choice of the most appropriate materials as well as the training prior to the installation, was one of the factors that made this project such a success, both in terms of design and execution.

Modern surfaces to protect History

Hotel Jakarta, which is located on Java-eiland in Amsterdam, and which opened its doors in the summer of 2018, is a very special project. A hotel centered around a tropical courtyard garden and incorporating all modern conveniences arose on a historic location. Sustainability plays a key role in the design of the building, which is built in wood. The sustainable and high-quality brands Silestone and Dekton from Cosentino tie in with this concept perfectly.

For years, the municipality of Amsterdam was looking for the best way to meet the need for hotel space at the head of Java-eiland. WestCord Hotels called in the help of SeARCH architects, who had already been involved in the urban development plan for Java-eiland. Together they developed a hotel concept that is as sustainable as it is high-tech, and with which they won the tender.

Image of Hotel Jakarta 122 1.jpg?auto=format%2Ccompress&ixlib=php 3.3 in Hotel Jakarta - Cosentino

The perfect textures of Silestone and Dekton for a natural ambient

Most of the materials that were used are pure: wood, steel and glass. In order to be able to meet the high sustainability requirements, the starting point was circularity. In other words, the recovery and reuse of materials. Also for the finishing touches, virtually no materials were used that have a short lifespan or are not recyclable. In Dekton and Silestone SeARCH found the ideal solution for the materials in the kitchen, restaurant and bakery of Hotel Jakarta.

In the kitchen, Dekton Kelya and Dekton Aura are applied as kitchen countertops. In the restaurant, the bar and all the bar tables are in Silestone Coral Clay and in the bakery, the bar is made of Dekton Tundra Xgloss. The extremely strong sheets with natural stone look not only fit perfectly into the natural character of the hotel, but are also extremely durable and resistant to stains, scratches, bumps and extreme (weather) conditions.

Centered around a courtyard garden

Java-eiland is now a residential area on a peninsula in the Eastern Docklands (Oostelijk Havengebied) in Amsterdam. This island once served as a breakwater in the IJ for the Eastern Trading Quay (Oostelijke Handelskade) behind it. Among others, the Dutch Steam Shipping Company (Stoomvaart Maatschappij Nederland), which provided scheduled services to the Dutch East Indies, settled in the port area that was created in the nineteenth century. It’s not for nothing that the southern quay of the island is called ‘Javakade’ and the northern quay is called ‘Sumatrakade’.

Many people left ‘to go east’ from this quay, sometimes never to return. This gives the place an incredible amount of historical significance, says SeARCH's Kim Francois. “When the island was developed into a residential area in the 1990s, it was decided to give courtyards the names of cities on Java and to name the canals after Javanese rivers. The four canals divide the island into five smaller islands, each with its own courtyard garden. It was perfectly clear to us that a hotel at the head of the island had to fit within the same plan. The idea for Hotel Jakarta was born, and like the rest of the island, a courtyard is at the heart of the design.”

Sustainable and future-proof

A condition for the design of the hotel was that very high demands had to be met in terms of sustainability. The hotel also had to connect with the neighborhood, as well as be an important place for the residents. “We decided that the tropical covered indoor garden should literally be the heart of the concept. A garden that - unlike other gardens - is not only accessible to residents, but to everyone.” Usually, courtyard gardens are the final element of a design, more like the green feature of a building. “That’s not the case here, we actually started with the garden and constructed the building around it”, explains Francois.

“In Dekton and Silestone SeARCH found the ideal solution for the materials in the kitchen, restaurant and bakery of Hotel Jakarta”

Beating heart

The atrium with its subtropical courtyard garden, a collaboration with Hortus Botanicus, forms the beating heart of the hotel. It acts as a temperature regulator in both summer and winter. On all sides of the building, the rooms have their own sheltered outdoor space, which simultaneously acts as protection from the sun. The public 'pasar' with its various bars, restaurants and coffee corners, the wellness area and the space for cultural activities bring together hotel guests, islanders and other residents of Amsterdam.

The building’s high sustainability requirements extend to every detail. In this way, low tech and high tech always meet with the ambition to develop a concept that is as sustainable as possible. A good network and access to all possible multimedia facilities are essential for future-proofing the hotel, and therefore its long-term sustainability.
