Located in the heart of Paris, Akabeko is a new gourmet French-Japanese fusion restaurant run by chef Yasuo Nanaumi. The chef’s culinary culture is influenced by his Japanese origins and his experience in top-rated restaurants such as Moulin de Mougins, Lucas Carton and Troisgros. Actually, despite having only recently opened its doors, the restaurant has already received very positive reviews from leading culinary publications, as well as from the general press.
Its décor, a fusion of the origins of the two culinary cultures it embodies, is warm, chic and modern, and was the work of Hekla, a comprehensive design studio – encompassing graphic design, interior design, architecture… – which has been creating “sober, pure and radiant spaces, born from the fusion of natural and raw materials” since 2013.
A sturdy bar top clad in Dekton Awake for a casual experience
For their project for Akabeko, the studio created two different spaces. Located on the ground floor, the first features a large bar top and is ideal for those who prefer a more casual experience while enjoying the open kitchen. Here, the cladding in Dekton Awake creates a sophisticated pattern with its thick veining with gradients of light grey and cream that blend with luscious rusty terracotta shades and subtle hints of inky blue.
In this way, Dekton Awake reinterprets the iconic features of precious paonazzo marble, but endows the surface with properties otherwise unobtainable in natural stone, such as total resistance to scratches, knocks, impacts, stains – its is a waterproof slab – and to extreme cold and heat. It is even resistant to frost and fire, all of which makes it perfect for the high demands of restaurant work.
In addition, Dekton Awake was also used for the bathroom vanity, where it blends beautifully with the golden reflections of the taps, lamp and mirror.
Silestone Ethereal Haze: glamour and durability at the table
On the upper floor, the studio designed a cosy and elegant room for a more intimate dining experience. Here, the surface chosen was Silestone Ethereal Haze, a soft colour with a strong character, in which the interplay of patterns merges with the deep, neutral background colour.
Like Dekton, Silestone comes with a 25-year warranty, underlining its exceptional strength and durability properties. And what’s more, both are made from recycled materials.
The two colours coexist throughout the restaurant with trendy shades of pink, which are also echoed in the bar top separating the dining area from the open kitchen on the ground floor and which is clad in Dekton Umber, a terracotta colour inspired by umber, a natural pigment with a reddish hue. This very trendy design, with its textured surface that is warm to the touch, is perfect for adding texture to the space and is also echoed on the floor, which, like the walls, is clad in the same stone for a powerful total look.
