For the Norwegian interior profile, Tonje Bjerknes, it was a Swedish businesswoman who made her go out of her way to find the stone she immediately fell in love with. When Tonje was going to build a cabin with her family, she was most determined about the kitchen. Traditionally, mountain cabins are characterized by timber walls and often a dark color palette. But Tonje had other wishes. As the kitchen at home was dark, she wanted the cabin to be bright. Most of all, she wanted to find the worktop she had seen at the Swedish businesswoman Bianca Ingrosso’s place.
“Bianca’s kitchen was the most beautiful kitchen I had never seen. I really needed to find that stone for our cabin,”Tonje recalls. The stone she had fallen in love with was Dekton Arga from Cosentino. It is a stone inspired by Taj Mahal quartzite with a dramatic texture of golden brown tones on a smooth cream background. “The rest of the cabin’s interior is based on the delicate tones of Dekton Arga,” says Tonje.
Valuable advices from the stonemason
Research showed that stonemason Eide Stein AS was the closest dealer of Dekton for Tonje. Their ideas and professional inputs really made an impact on the outcome of the family's mountain cabin.
“Eide Stein are extremely talented and professional people, and gave good advice that we are so happy about - regarding size, design, thickness of the plates and practical solutions. They measured, cut and fitted worktops, splashback and wall coverings from Cosentino. They also cut a table top from the same material, which we designed and assembled ourselves,” says Tonje.
Exquisite and user-friendly surface
It was initially the design of the plates that first piqued Tonje's interest. But the user-friendliness is just as important. Prior to contacting Eide Stein, she googled and realized that Dekton can resist hot boilers being placed directly on the plates, that it is UV-resistant, scratch-resistant and practically withstands everything.
“I get many questions from my followers about how I manage to keep the surfaces so nice without any scratches or stains. The truth is that I don’t use anything but a damp cloth and regular soap. Especially the table is being used all the time. Children sit there and bake, draw and paint. The stains disappear easily,” says Tonje.
Tonje also likes to have cube lights standing straight on the table, even though the candles tend to spill over the table. When it has solidified, it is easy to remove. “There are no stains on the table at all. Dekton makes it easy to keep the cabin both delicate and neat. The surfaces are super practical, durable and spectacular. We are incredibly happy with Dekton,” states Tonje.
