Ta-Kumi began as a small Japanese restaurant in Málaga. Thanks to excellent word of mouth, it gradually expanded and eventually opened two more locations: one in Marbella and another in Madrid. The Madrid location, which opened its doors in November 2022, was conceived by Paco Lago Interioriza’s team, who took on the challenge of bringing the culinary essence of the restaurant to the capital.

“Ta-Kumi represents Japanese gastronomic excellence, with a concept in which the ingredients and techniques are an undeniable part of its identity,” explains the studio. This Málaga restaurant is listed in the Michelin Guide and is renowned for its cuisine, which combines tradition and innovation, thanks to two skilled chefs, Toshio and Álvaro (‘TA’), who work together as a team (‘Kumi’ in Japanese). It should also be noted the two words together, ‘Takumi’, mean ‘artisan’ and ‘master’ in Japanese.

Dark tones and warm lighting to create an intimate and opulent atmosphere

“The sober and minimalist concept that characterises Ta-Kumi Marbella has served as the basis for the creation of the new concept in Madrid, always associated with a name of great influence in the restaurant world,” says Paco Lago Interioriza

In designing the new space, the team has transformed a three-storey area flooded with natural light into an intimate environment, achieved through the use of dark wood, cement and muted fabrics, all complemented by warm lighting. The tables are finished in Dekton Laurent black, inspired by the natural beauty of the Port Laurent stone. Its surface texture creates a refined play of shades in which its golden veins dominate the space and bring warmth to its dark, cold background, which gives depth to the whole.

“We took inspiration from Japanese fabric prints and applied them conceptually to give the space a sense of movement. By reinventing traditional elements and introducing new furniture and applications that have evolved into more daring models, we have created the prelude to a unique and playful culinary sensory experience for the senses, where the space engages with the essence of what Ta-Kumi is known for,” the team explains.

Trust in Cosentino and its products, a safe bet

For Paco Lago Interioriza, Cosentino products are a kind of “wardrobe of design staples”. “Cosentino products are the starting point for our collages, as they are usually very prominent in our spaces. Once they are selected, we look for the rest of the range to match them,” explains his team.

In addition to its dominant role in their designs, Dekton’s properties have also been a strong factor in the company’s choice of material. “In addition to the advanced aesthetics of each option chosen, we are also confident that we won’t have any problems with the daily use of the facilities,” he explains.

Dekton, a stone that does not scratch or stain and is impervious to abrasion, even frost and fire, is therefore the perfect material for this type of restaurant space. Moreover, its extensive warranty of up to 25 years makes it the ‘safe bet’ that Paco Lago Interioza alludes to, a point that is confirmed thanks to the relationship with the brand.

“What really sets Cosentino apart, even more than its quality, is the team’s unwavering commitment to each project. Their advice is a guarantee for the success of each of our projects,” concludes the studio.
