Gaëlle Cuisy and Karine Martin met while studying architecture at the École Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture in Versailles. They have been working together since 2005 and founded their own architectural practice, GplusK, in Paris in 2008. Since then, the firm has undertaken prestigious residential projects, large public and private spaces, and even theatre sets.

They are also familiar faces in France thanks to their weekly television appearances on La Maison France 5, where they have worked together for more than a decade. On this programme, they have been recognised for their commitment to meticulous design and attention to detail, regardless of the size of the budget.

Since 2021, they have both appeared on the programme ‘M comme Maison’ on the French channel C8. In this TV show, architects deliver bespoke projects that meet the specific needs of their clients, all within a strict budget and to very tight deadlines.

However, their most important project is, of course, their own home. In the case of Cuisy, it has recently been realised in Nîmes after a refurbishment that has not only given it functionality and elegance, but also brought it into line with contemporary design trends.

A modern and sophisticated kitchen combining Dekton Arga and Dekton Aeris

The project is defined by a beautiful and spacious open plan kitchen featuring a Dekton Arga worktop, inspired by the quartzite of the Taj Mahal. It recreates the luxury of natural stone with the properties of Stonika on a smooth cream background, accentuated by subtle light brown and gold veins that enhance its dramatic appearance.

This hyper-realistic, deep and rich graphic, with a dazzling sheen, harmonises perfectly with Dekton Aeris, the colour chosen for the floor. Aeris is a colour of light tones with cream-coloured details inspired by white limestone.

On top of its design, Dekton has been chosen for its resistance to stains, heat, scratches and acids, as well as for its ease of cleaning and maintenance. In fact, it is clear that beauty and functionality come together in this kitchen: just look at all the storage space.

Here, the base units are in dark wood, while the wall units are in yellow lacquered wood. The golden taps and the rounded island, covered in metal slats, complete the modern and sophisticated look.

Silestone’s fashionable colours add a sparkle to your bathroom

Silestone by Cosentino was chosen for the bathroom. Specifically, three colours from the new Sunlit Days collection were used, trendy shades that are among the interior designers’ favourites. Cuisy opted for Arcilla Red, a deep, earthy red that creates cosy, warm rooms, for the wall cladding, while Cala Blue was used for the countertop and double Marie washbasin. Cala Blue is a modern and stimulating blue colour which, with its interplay with light, balances between the depth and the surface of the sea.

Finally, Cuisy went for Faro White for both the shower tray (using the Kador Suite model) and the bathtub cladding, a powdery white colour that gives the room a sense of calm and serenity. All in all, the room exudes style and personality, with a decidedly contemporary touch.
