Renovated by SqM2 Interior Design, this Singapore home features two main areas separated by elegant, minimalist joinery. The communal area comprises a lounge and dining room, a kitchen with breakfast area, a patio and a bathroom, while the private area comprises the master bedroom and an additional bedroom. The colour palette favours contrast, striking a balance between dark, deep finishes and lighter, textured surfaces in shades of grey, beige and off-white.

“The material scheme includes both masculine and feminine finishes, but we have tried to make them look and feel harmonious within the space. Examples include the breakfast bar worktop and splashback and the kitchen worktops. Both areas were clad in Dekton, the colours chosen being Awake and Laurent, respectively. Both colours feature similar coppery veins, but while Awake has a white background, Laurent’s is black, which enhances the contrast,” the studio explains.

Used for the breakfast and coffee bar, Dekton Laurent is inspired by the natural stone Port Laurent. Its surface texture creates a play of shades that enhance the contrast of its tones, while its golden veins dominate the space and bring warmth to its dark, cold background, which gives depth to the whole. Meanwhile, used on the kitchen worktop and island, Dekton Awake reinterprets the iconic features of precious paonazzo marble. A thick veining with gradients of light grey and cream, with luscious rusty terracotta and subtle hints of inky blue.

Dekton: the perfect material to match stylish aesthetics

The design brief included an open kitchen and a large coffee bar. According to the studio, the owners “liked the idea of finding a colour range that would adapt to these spaces. They had heard about Dekton, and its materials and colours suited their taste for modern luxury,” the studio says.

As the kitchen is the heart of the home, the result had to be aesthetic and elegant, but also functional and durable, ensuring a long life of use. The open kitchen concept required the proposed finishes to be in keeping with the other materials and colours chosen. And as the masculine-feminine contrast was in perfect balance, the kitchen had to follow the same pattern.

Dekton Laurent and Dekton Awake were the right choice for this project, not only for their aesthetics, but also for their high resistance to stains, scratches and high temperatures, which is ideal for these worktops and splashbacks that will be used intensively on a daily basis.
