Pilar García-Ferrer is not only an architect, but also the creative force behind the famous collages that have become a sensation on Instagram, where she is widely known as Pils Ferrer. She personally invites us to come and have a look at her house, which she has completely renovated, working together with Cosentino to improve the most important areas.

Given Pilar’s penchant for hosting guests, the kitchen transcended its utilitarian purpose and evolved into a distinctive space in which design and durability were seamlessly blended. The same goes for the bathrooms, spaces where it was essential to create an atmosphere of intimacy in total luxury.

A kitchen to live in

“Welcome to our home,” Pilar says warmly, “we have undertaken a major renovation project of the house, retaining virtually all of the original layout with the exception of a few rooms. One of them is the kitchen,” where she knew that Dekton had to be the main material. “I chose Dekton for its durability and resistance. It can withstand various challenges, making it a material that performs exceptionally well”. She also considered the aesthetic criteria, as “it has impressive finishes and a very successful imitation of natural stone”.

For this room, Pilar decided to use Dekton Arga. Inspired by Taj Mahal quartzite, this colour recreates the luxury of natural stone with the properties of Stonika. Its smooth cream background, with subtle light brown and gold veins, intensifies its dramatic structure. A hyperrealist graphic, with a dazzling sheen, gives depth and richness to this material.

One of the biggest challenges in designing the kitchen was to create a large peninsula where everyone could be, “because we spend a lot of time in this space, either cooking for all our friends, having a snack, or even moving our computers and working here all day”.

Bathrooms, a little pampering

The other major change to the original layout was in the bathrooms. In the en-suite bathroom, the aim was to make it feel directly connected to the dressing room and the bedroom itself. “When it came to choosing a new worktop, I decided to go for something that was very strong and durable. And Dekton is perfect because it resists the typical toothbrush and water stains that can linger on other materials.

Specifically, Dekton Helena was chosen for the en-suite bathroom and Dekton Aeris for the guest bathroom. The first choice, Helena, is a very rich colour with the perfect balance of grey and white tones and a delicate crackle that brings a depth typical of the stone that inspires it, onyx. The second choice, Aeris, is a colour that boasts light tones with cream-coloured detail inspired by white limestone. A neutral and subtle shade that allows a great variety of combinations for different environments and architectural styles.

“Working with Cosentino has been very straightforward, both in terms of their accessibility and timely delivery of materials, as well as their promptness. They are large format pieces, they avoid the use of many joints, and as architects we really appreciate that when it comes to the aesthetic solution of a project,” she concludes.
