Edificio Marina Guanarteme is a 5-storey residential building located near Las Canteras beach in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The aesthetic concept of the building is in line with its commitment to achieving the highest levels of sustainability, addressing design and installations alike. The project comprises 39 dwellings with access from two streets and a large central courtyard with circulation spaces.

The predominant colour of the building, both inside and out, is black. Gesarq Estudio de Arquitectura SLP were clear from the start that they wanted to use Dekton Eter and Dekton Domoos to give the project a distinctive character, as well as Dekton Soke for a specific section of the entrance area.

The quality of the material proved decisive

The studio needed a material with exceptional properties, and they found their solution in Dekton. They explain: “We had to take into account that it would be used to clad the façades and make kitchen worktops inside the apartments, so we were looking for a guarantee of quality and peace of mind throughout the project”.

“Dekton was chosen because of the quality of the material, its aesthetic appeal and the solutions provided by the sales engineer, who helped to dispel initial doubts and questions even before the proposal was sent to the technical department. It was a black finish that we were after, and it was a plus that the material was textured when it was finally chosen”.

Three powerful Dekton colours

Dekton Eter, with its dark granite structure in black and grey tones, boasts a sleek design that offers a distinctly contemporary style, making it a perfect choice for both interior and exterior applications. In this particular case, it was chosen for the exterior façade. To create contrast at the entrance, Dekton Soke was used, with its versatile and realistic grey colour inspired by classic cement.

Meanwhile, the graphite black of Dekton Domoos was chosen to achieve an elegant and refined aesthetic, presenting a simple colour for those who appreciate a more understated design. In this case, it was used in the kitchens and, according to the studio, “the result is unparalleled as we were looking for a highly durable and resistant element for use in rental housing”.

Easily adaptable façade systems

To meet the specific requirements of this project, three different Dekton application systems were integrated. For the 8 mm thick façade, a hidden mechanical system, type DKBG-X, with a double groove on the reverse side, manufactured at the Cosentino factory, was used to accommodate the supplier’s clip system. This system allows for different formats, including full vertical or horizontal panels.

For the window frames, a 4 mm thick Dekton was chosen for its lightness and easy adaptability on site, fixed to DKC metal profiles using an adhesive system.

Finally, for the entrance area, a façade system was glued directly to the wall using a cement-based adhesive to increase impact resistance. This approach also ensures aesthetic continuity, with joints of at least 3 mm and Dekton-coloured grouting.

In summary, the architecture firm worked alongside the Cosentino team to select the most appropriate solution for each area of the project’s façade, taking advantage of the versatility offered by Dekton, which comes with a 25-year warranty.
