Guido Kurth describes himself as a businessman with an affinity for numbers. “At the same time, however, my heart has always beaten strongly for architecture, colors and shapes.” He now lives out his passion in an entrepreneurial way. With the team from "openair kitchen” and a lot of love for design, perfection and traditional craftsmanship, the minimalist outdoor kitchen “PURE” was created, which has won two design awards in 2022.

He already had his house realized by the architect according to his own drawings. The garden was to become an extended living area with an outdoor kitchen. But no manufacturer on the market offered what Guido Kurth had in mind. So he drew up his own plans. This is what “openair kitchen” is based on. “We create useful and beautiful things for cooking and living outdoors,” Kurth describes his vision. “The focus is on the design of the products, manufactured with sustainable materials and precise craftsmanship.”

The outdoor kitchens can be customized as a line, with an optional island or in an L-shape (“PURE”) as well as from stand-alone cubes (“CUBE”). “openair kitchen” offers modules for cooking and grilling, washing and preparing, organizing and storing as well as cooling and tapping – all are equipped with premium appliances. Bodies and fronts are made of aluminum and are powder-coated in any weather-resistant color according to the customer's wishes. Screws, mechanics and panels are made of corrosion-free stainless steel.

Noble appearance - extremely robust

“For the countertop and the side cladding of the modules, we exclusively use Dekton,” says Guido Kurth. “The material appears as noble as high-quality natural stone but is much less sensitive and more weather-resistant. Like its natural model, Dekton consists exclusively of minerals. However, the particles are sintered in a CO2-neutral manner in a controlled process under high pressure and heat to form an ultra-compact surface. It is scratch- and impact-resistant, and cannot be harmed by heat, cold or temperature shocks.

“Dekton is not only UV-resistant, but also practically non-porous. Since liquids can hardly seep in, the material is stain-resistant and extremely easy to clean,” praises Kurth. “It can also be processed very precisely and, with more than 70 designs, offers the possibility of realizing almost any customer wish.” The worktops and side panels of the furniture are usually made in 12 mm thickness, and the edges are slightly chamfered. Eighty percent of the cutting and machining is done directly at Cosentino, and 20 percent at the local stonemason.

Combining material and manufacturing quality with emotional appeal

“As a manufactory, we rely on the highest standards of material and production quality,” says Guido Kurth. “At the same time, we need the freedom to respond flexibly to our customers’ wishes.” Meeting these contradictory requirements has obviously been successful with the customizable kitchen modules: “PURE” – with a mitered surface of Dekton Laurent with golden veining on a dark brown background – won the German Design Award and the Red Dot Design Award in 2022.

Purist fittings, pull-outs with handleless one-touch automation and minimal gaps of down to 2 mm make the hearts of minimalist design lovers beat faster – in Berlin and around the world. With his passion for perfection, Guido Kurth has more ideas up his sleeve. The portfolio is to open up for further furniture and accessories and everything that takes place outside. Dining and side tables as well as counters with Dekton surfaces are already planned.
