Istanbul Medipol University has two campuses, the South Campus and the North Campus, which are located in the Kavacik district of Beykoz, Turkey. Located at the Anatolian end of the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge, just off the bridge, the Kavacik campuses are centrally located next to the Beykoz Forests, and feature large and spacious amphitheatres, tennis and basketball courts, recreational areas, classrooms and gardens. Their common areas are exposed to heavy traffic and use. Hence, the materials must be sturdy.
It was clear to architect Suat Özcan from the start that Cosentino would be his ideal partner for the service and cafeteria counters and much more.
Standing out with elegance
“It was obvious that the Medipol Store would be very busy. That is why we chose Dekton materials, which are durable, easy to clean, available in a wide range of products and can be combined harmoniously with each other. In addition, attracting people’s attention by adding elegance to the place is a positive aspect in the circulation of the shops,” says Özcan. “The most striking feature of the project is the huge, geometrically shaped Dekton counter that welcomes visitors as they enter the space.”
Powerful and full of character
With its dark and weathered tones, Dekton Laos reflects the personality of industrial design, reinterpreting it and showing its most innovative and modern side. Its grey veining and warm tones give it great appeal, and together with its soft matt finish, make it the ideal choice for creating contemporary spaces. All this made it the colour of choice to give character to the shop counter and service area.
Inspired by the natural stone Port Laurent, Dekton Laurent features a texture that brings an interplay of nuances that enhance the contrast of its tones. Thus its golden veins establish a hierarchy in the space and bring warmth to a cold, dark background, which in turn add depth to the overall effect.
Meanwhile, Dekton Natura replicates the quintessential style of marble with a soft grey veining that enhances its classic white background. Lustrous and reflective, its striking colour is achieved through a unique nanotechnology-based treatment and mechanical polishing, which results in a glass-like gloss.
It is precisely these two colours, Laurent and Natura, that Özcan combined beautifully for the powerful cafeteria counter.
