Known for being a judge on MasterChef USA and MasterChef Italy, Joe Bastianich is also an entrepreneur in the world of gastronomy who runs, among others, Joe’s American BBQ and who has the clear objective of building bridges between the gastronomy of the United States and Italy. What started as a personal challenge became an unprecedented success that led him to open establishments in Florence, Rome and Milan. And from this arose the need to centralise production towards mass production. Today, this is a reality embodied in a pristine laboratory.
“With this concept there has been a shift in direction. In fact, Joe Bastianich, who had always brought Italy to America, decided for the first time to bring an American product to Italy, and for this he opted for Barbecue, a very deep-rooted concept”, says Anna Sammarone, CEO of Joe’s American BBQ. “All our meat comes from Creekstone Farms (USA) and because we slow-cook it over a long period of time, we need cuts of meat with the kind of fat that is only found in corn-fed, pasture-grazed herds. We are committed to this concept and always select 100% American Black Angus”.
Materials suited to the work
“This is why we decided to use Cosentino materials for this lab, as they are aesthetically pleasing, functional, easy to clean and large surfaces that are perfectly suited to our work”, says Sammarone. The format prevents the accumulation of spices and grease. Everyone who enters here will find spaces with the perfect combination of aesthetics, elegance and functionality”.
This lab has allowed Joe Bastianich – current brand ambassador for Cosentino Italy – to create new formats. “In fact, although its initial aim was to centralise productivity, this laboratory will also become a training centre for people who want to take their first steps in this profession”.
Looking for different sensations
At Joe’s American BBQ they were very clear about what they were looking for. “We wanted an elegant but at the same time modern and daring atmosphere. We chose the Carrara marble effect because it reminds us of the old butcher’s shops. For the floor, we opted for black tiles reminiscent of the colour of the charcoal we use in our smoker”.
Thus, the floor features Dekton Eter, a colour with a dark granite structure in black and grey tones. On the walls of the reception area, the dominant surface is Dekton Trilium, which offers a mixture of colours inspired by volcanic stones, with touches of deep grey and black shades. Manufactured with up to 80% recycled materials, Trilium was developed in 2016, becoming Dekton’s first ecological colour. For the kitchen wall cladding, the material of choice was Dekton Natura 22, a colour that replicates the quintessential style of marble with a soft grey veining that enhances its classic white background.
As for the bathroom, Dekton Kreta and Kreta Reflection stand out. Inspired by traditional cement floors, but evoking a sense of serenity, Kreta features a homogeneous and restrained design, although it includes darker or lighter areas depending on the density of the pattern. In addition, its matt texture and grey shade match all types of materials, making it perfect for any application.
There is nothing but advantages
“These surfaces stand out for their high resistance to scratches, stains and liquid absorption. They are highly resistant materials that can withstand the wear and tear caused by the use of kitchen utensils and stains from liquids such as coffee, wine and even chemicals or detergents”.
“The eye-catching design of these materials does not affect their professional use. Large-format slabs help us to keep surfaces clean, as there are not many joints where dirt can accumulate, thus easily ensuring a high level of hygiene.
