POST Houston
OMA + Jason Long
Houston, United States
This building abandoned for almost a decade has been brought back to public life by this new cultural hub with a diverse program.
POST Houston presents itself as an active assortment of programs for both work and leisure. The new facility is organized around three double-height voids perforating the original grid. In each of these atriums, a monumental staircase – differing in character, structure, and material from the other two – connects the floors and encourages interaction among users.
The paths duplicate, intertwine, and expand to form spots for accidental encounters under the large skylights, so the stairs are not just for going up and down. The varying shapes and orientations of the building’s elements create a dense programmatic matrix punctuated by unexpected clearings and view corridors. A rooftop park offers sweeping views of the city.
