Specialising in product design, Alberto Sánchez and Eduardo Villalón are the design duo behind MUT Design, clear representatives of the new wave of Valencian designers. They have contributed the Ellipse bathroom design as part of The Bathelier, the C·Bath ideas lab, Cosentino’s comprehensive proposal for bathrooms. A space inspired by the expressionism and organic architecture of Torres Blancas, the 1960s building designed by Francisco Javier Sáenz de Oiza.
From this iconic building, the Valencian designers took the curved, spiral and seashell shapes so often found in nature. With such geometries, they have succeeded in creating a perfect language to convey emotions through the shapes and textures selected for this bathroom. It is a space that serves not only as a formal experiment but also as a functional one, since there is a partitioning element that plays with the different levels of privacy.
A cylindrical volume to divide and connect spaces
A shower area is concealed behind the main cylindrical element, providing both privacy and natural light, as it is directly connected to the large exterior window. This volume is entirely clad in Dekton Pietra Kode VK02 Avorio, a light beige with a finish inspired by the Italian stone of the same name, which is characterised by the presence of fossil shells.
The open-plan bathroom consists of truncated cylindrical modules that facilitate the flow from inside to outside and vice versa. The concept explores new ways of understanding this piece as a fundamental part of today’s home. The different volumes create several separate but interconnected spaces.
Two Dekton colours in dialogue
The design of Dekton Pietra Kode VK02 Avorio makes it particularly suitable for applications where pattern continuity at the edges is required, as in this shower or the washbasin where it was also used.
To create a clean and neutral environment, Dekton Argentium was used for the flooring throughout the bathroom. Its hue – typical of lime plaster – provides a texture that adds movement and depth to the room.
