Located in Raxó, Pontevedra, this new hotel is the envy of its neighbours, occupying a privileged coastal enclave with views over the estuary and the island of Tambo. Thanks to its strategic location on a hillside, the hotel offers panoramic views of the sea, a distinctive feature of the project. The property is made up of three traditional buildings of great historical value, which have been converted into two independent residences, preserving the original volumes and façades.
The design of the hotel, called ‘Hotel en la Costa’ (Hotel on the Coast), is marked by a contemporary approach to both the exterior and interior. The main façade, characterised by a winning combination of granite on the ground floor and ceramic cladding on the main volume, creates a visual contrast and gives the building a sense of solidity. This architectural choice is a harmonious blend of respect for the past and adaptation to the needs of the present.
Inside, the Paco Galiñanes studio, responsible for the project, opted for durable and aesthetically pleasing materials such as ceramic floors, marble worktops, hardwood doors and furniture, as well as carefully designed elements in the bathrooms. This choice of materials aims to craft comfortable and robust spaces that will stand the test of time and frequent use by visitors. Each hotel apartment has individual tiled terraces, visually integrated with the sea, providing guests with private spaces to enjoy the scenery and the sea breeze.
Dekton inside and out for premium quality, durability and aesthetics
One of the highlights of the project is the use of Cosentino’s Dekton. In the words of Paco Galiñanes, founder of the studio, “For the façade we used a cut that allowed us to appreciate the versatility of Dekton’s large format”. The façade features the colour Moone, characterised by its warm white tone, which brings brightness to the space. Meanwhile, Dekton Eter has been used in the kitchens, with a dark granite structure in black and grey tones, creating an interesting and functional contrast.
Galiñanes emphasises Dekton’s properties, such as its hardness and the durability of its appearance over time, as decisive factors in choosing this material. He also highlights the ease of maintenance and cleaning as significant advantages, which made it easier to adapt the material to the project.
According to Galiñanes, “the standardised solutions in the case of the ventilated façade, together with the technical characteristics of the material, allowed the project to run smoothly from the moment of selection to the end”. Achieving this was no small feat, given the architectural challenges of the project. “Intervening in an existing building, providing it with a new activity such as a hotel, and at the same time revitalising the architectural complex by integrating it into the context of the Pontevedra estuary coast were the main requirements,” he points out.
The hotel strives to harmoniously integrate contemporary design into a historic and natural context. The choice of materials, such as Dekton, and attention to details, such as natural light and privacy, demonstrate a commitment to comfort and the guest experience, while maintaining the architectural integrity of the surroundings.
