Discover the innovative concept and inspiration behind Strata, a captivating outdoor sculpture in the heart of Singapore, brought to life by the visionary artists Eugene Kosgoron and Michael Yeow.

Strata challenges traditional perceptions of stone tiles by layering them to create a dynamic, visually striking sculpture. Drawing inspiration from natural rock formations, the artists aimed to evoke a sense of returning to the classics while exploring new possibilities in material usage.

Process of creation

“The journey of bringing Strata to life involved collaboration with various industry experts and meticulous planning. Through discussions with Cosentino and other stakeholders, the vision for the sculpture evolved and refined over time. The selection of materials from Dekton Pietra collection: Grafite, and Nabbia, was crucial in achieving the desired high-contrast effect, reminiscent of natural landscapes,” says Eugene.

“The project posed challenges in fabrication and coordination among multiple parties. However, through clear communication and teamwork, we overcame these hurdles. Engineers played a vital role in concealing structural elements, ensuring a seamless integration of form and function. Strata stands as a testament to the power of collective effort and shared vision.”

Unique features

“What sets Strata apart is its innovative design, featuring intricate apertures that allow light to play with the sculpture's surfaces, revealing different perspectives at various times of the day. Stainless steel dowels replace traditional vertical supports, creating a dynamic, weightless appearance. Viewers are invited to explore the sculpture from multiple angles, appreciating the nuances of each Italian piece that forms its foundation” explains Michael Yeow.

“Dekton by Cosentino served as the cornerstone of Strata's narrative, offering both aesthetic appeal and durability. The selection of Dekton Grafite and Nabbia allowed for a seamless transition from dark to light tones, echoing the surrounding natural landscape. Strata's natural finishes harmonize effortlessly with the lush greenery of its environment, creating a captivating fusion of art and nature,” says Yeow.

Strata stands as a testament to creativity, collaboration, and innovation. By pushing the boundaries of material usage and design, Eugene Kosgoron and Michael Yeow have created a timeless masterpiece that captivates and inspires all who encounter it.
