Landscape architect Erik Knops, from Knops Tuindesign, transformed a city garden in the heart of Amsterdam into an oasis of tranquility and a place to enjoy culinary delights prepared in the outdoor kitchen.

A small city garden that offers everything a large garden does: relaxing, savoring good food, enjoying every season. Knops Tuindesign designed this high-quality outdoor space in just 6 x 7 meters. Various areas make it possible to use the garden both during the day and at night, and throughout all seasons. A soft lounge, a sitting area by the fireplace for dining and an outdoor kitchen where fresh herbs are within easy reach. The fully automatic slatted roof ensures that you remain dry in bad weather, but it can also be opened to enjoy the sun!

The lighting plays an essential role. The trees and facades are atmospherically illuminated and a splendid, attractive glow shines from behind the custom panels. The floating stairs are also equipped with lighting, which creates a playful height difference. As a result, and due to the application of contrasts, the garden appears optically larger. The natural stone strips, the wooden facade cladding, the gray elements, the ceramic tiles, and the black accents create an extra connection.

A big eye-catcher in the garden is the COOXS outdoor kitchen, where the dark hues complement the black accents of powder-coated black aluminum, which have been used throughout in the garden. Knops Tuindesign chose materials from Cosentino for the outdoor kitchen worktop. In this case, Dekton Laurent. This color is inspired by the Port Laurent natural stone, and has a striking appearance with its spectacular dark brown background with criss-crossed golden veins. Dekton is an innovative and carbon neutral ultracompact surface that is a mixture of more than 20 minerals extracted from nature. It benefits from high strength and versatility, and is perfect for outdoor use as it is not sensitive to weather conditions. In addition, it is stain and scratch resistant, and fire and heat resistant; these properties make it ideal for use in an outdoor kitchen.

A combination of different materials was chosen to enhance the feeling of having different areas in this smaller garden. Ceramic tiles were thereby used for the terrace and as cascading steps.
