Founded in 2014, Design Zage is a Singapore-based interior design studio well-known for creating quality spaces that, in their own words, “inspire conversations, evoke memories and elevate lifestyle”. Not long ago, the studio completed a residential project on the iconic East Coast Road, a lively residential area where traditional businesses, museums, shops and restaurants – some of the best on the island – abound.
Large, non-deformable and very easy to install slabs
This house, named Terrace House by the studio, features Cosentino materials throughout, from the façade to the dining table. “We wanted to use as large a stone surface as possible to clad the bathroom, which is very difficult to find on the market”, the studio says.
The strength, durability and ease of installation of Cosentino slabs were key to the professionals’ choice: “They do not warp and are available in thicknesses of 4 mm and 8 mm for wall cladding. We also used them for the floor, so no grouting was necessary”, they further say.
Colour was also a very important factor in the decision to ‘fill’ the house with Dekton: “Cosentino is always coming up with new designs to excite us designers, as we tend to get bored easily”, the professionals joke.
Marble and wood? No. Dekton!
In this case, for the wall cladding in the first bathroom, the colour chosen was Dekton Stonika Bergen, a shade that strives for perfection in tone, structure and depth. The beauty of its greyish veins, with sculptural pattern on a whitish background with delicate filigree, makes it a trendy design full of character and elegance. Thanks to its XGloss finish, it offers a dazzling, almost mirror-like shine, making it the only surface on the market with such a fine thickness that achieves this.
Bergen blends perfectly with the colour used for the floor, Dekton Vera, a grey shade with a similar pattern but a more cement-like appearance. Meanwhile, the countertop features Dekton Valterra and emulates the patterns of classic, organic wood, while offering all the advantages of Dekton: resistance to water, stains, impacts, scratches, extreme heat… “In addition to offering the most natural finish, Cosentino materials have proven to be long-lasting and user-friendly, with no special care required”, the studio says.
As for the other bathroom, it features Dekton Rem on the countertop and front and Dekton Kira on the floor and wall cladding. With an intricate design featuring brown and grey veining and hints of gold, Rem takes inspiration from one of the most elegant white marbles on the market, Calacatta. As for Kira, it features a background in earth tones crossed by delicate light grey veins reminiscent of the Gris Pulpis natural stone for its elegance and versatility.
Extraordinary gloss and liveliness thanks to the exclusive XGloss finish
Dekton surfaces are also present in the kitchen. The walls of the island feature Dekton Kahlo, a colour inspired by the world-famous Patagonia natural stone, while the worktop and front are clad in Dekton Albarium. This off-white colour is very special, as it features transparencies and colour gradations typical of Roman stuccoes that imitated white marble. Although it has a matt finish, depending on the incidence of light, reflections and sparkles that simulate marble dust can be seen.
In addition, the stunning dining table features a bespoke tabletop made of another Cosentino material. Specifically, the surface chosen was Sensa Taj Mahal, whose overwhelming intensity conveys the visual richness of nature to the space.
The stairs in the living area are made in Dekton Stonika Sogne, a colour with touches of natural stone and concrete on a veined background that dazzles thanks to its XGloss finish.
And last but not least, the façade is also clad in Dekton. In this case, the colour chosen was Radium, a shade with the appearance of rusted, acid-degraded steel that gives a very contemporary look. With a 25-year warranty, however, this product ensures that its appearance will remain unaltered for decades with virtually no maintenance.
