The best non-slip shower tray

Over the last few years, plenty of families have opted to swap their old baths for modern and functional shower trays. In fact, it has been one of the most popular upgrades in recent times according to construction professionals, which is why it is essential to know which is the best non-slip shower tray when making a decision.

As some members of the family grow older, safety in the bathroom becomes more important, as it is the second place in the home where most accidents occur. Whether it is for the elderly, children, or adults, having a large and easily accessible shower tray without any physical restrictions is much more convenient.

When looking for a shower tray, you will find a wide range of different options and materials to choose from on the market, with acrylic being the most popular choice due to its low cost. However, there are other options available with great benefits when it comes to durability, aesthetics, and resistance. These include natural stone shower trays and trays made from materials such as Silestone or ultra compact materials like Dekton.

When it comes to Silestone, we have four shower tray models:  Wakka, Wakka Brim, Exelis and Kador Suite. These models all have a soft and sandy finish to guarantee their safe use.

Another good option for non-slip shower trays is Dekton Gocce, which has Grip+ cladding to provide maximum non-slip protection. This shower tray has the necessary incline for water to run away at just 20 mm making it perfect for floor level showers and thereby giving us an answer as to what is the best non-slip shower tray.

How are non-slip shower trays classified?

According to the regulations, there are three different grades of non-slip treatments for shower trays:

  • Type 1: minimal non-slip shower trays. These are for dry indoor areas with surfaces that have less than a 6% incline.
  • Type 2: non-slip shower trays. These are for humid indoor areas with surfaces that have more than a 6% incline.
  • Type 3: high grade non-slip shower trays. These are for outdoor areas, swimming pools, and outdoor showers.

At Cosentino, we recommend installing safe and secure shower trays with non-slip protection, like our Silestone shower trays which have a smooth granulated finish to prevent slipping. For maximum safety, we recommend Dekton Grip+ Gocce shower trays with C3 grade, the highest possible non-slip protection.

Non-slip shower trays with screens

Non-slip shower trays with glass screens are a good option for those bathrooms in need of both elegance and practicality. A screen provides a certain degree of added safety in a shower, and the materials used and the type of screen must be carefully selected.

Screen types:

  • Sliding: this is the best option for rectangular showers in small bathrooms. It is the best way to optimise space and provide easy and comfortable access.
  • Hinged: this is only recommended for large bathrooms, as they open outwards and take up quite a lot of space.
  • Folding: this is commonly used in small showers, it opens up like an accordion.
  • Fixed: this is a fixed glass screen which adds a modern and minimalist look as it has less features.

In terms of the screen’s material, frosted glass offers a lot of security, as it is shock resistant and does not shatter if broken.

A good alternative to glass screens is to build a wall with Sensa, Dekton or Silestone cladding. We can add to the design by mixing different colours for the shower tray and screen, or by choosing the same colour to create a sleeker more unformed look.

Choosing any of these claddings instead of a glass screen will mean less maintenance as these surfaces are especially resistant to limescale and soap.
