COSENTINO INNOVATES AGAIN AND PRESENTS THE ULTRA-COMPACT DEKTON® SURFACE

29 October 2012 – The Spanish multinational and world leader in the production and distribution of quartz and other natural stone surfaces, Cosentino has presented the new ultra-compact  Dekton® by Cosentino surface along with its Strategic Business Plan for the period 2012-2014, in a press conference held at the Groups headquarters in Almería.

The commercial launch of the ultra-compact surface, Dekton® by Cosentino will take place in 2013.  It will be manufactured at a new factory located in the Cosentino Group Industrial Park in (Cantoria) Almería and will feature the advanced Particle Sintering Technology “PST”, developed exclusively by the Group’s RD&i department.

Dekton® is the most important technological and commercial achievement of the stone industry worldwide and embodies the commitment to the future of the multinational from Almeria. The launch of Dekton® is the result of an investment of 128 million euros and 22,000 hours of research and development by the Group.  With this launch the company demonstrates its firm belief in a strategy based on innovation and product diversification.

The Strategic Plan presented by the Cosentino Group for 2012-2014 envisages an annual growth of 17%, with a prior investment of 167 million euros, between productive investment and trade. More than 75% of that investment has been earmarked to consolidate and increase production capacity and logistics of the company, which as always pledges commitment to  Comarca del Mármol in Almería, doubling the expanse of the Group’s Industrial Park in Cantoria with an additional 580,000m2 of industrial land, which will house the new installations.

The group also plans to create 300 new direct jobs, between the Almeria production site and the various Group facilities spread across the world.

During the meeting, which was attended by Francisco Martinez-Cosentino, Chairman of the Group, Pilar Martínez-Cosentino, Deputy Director, and other members of the Board of the company, visits were made to the new urban industrial land in the Industrial Park, and new installations:

  • The new factory with advanced PST technology, Particle Sintering Technology, in which the new ultra-compact surface Dekton® by Cosentino will be manufactured, and which will have an initial production capacity of 1,500 slabs per day.
  • The sophisticated Intelligent Logistics Platform, supplying all Silestone®, Dekton® slabs and other Cosentino products to all markets.

According to Francisco Martínez-Cosentino, Cosentino Group Chairman, “the extension of the Cosentino Industrial Park in Cantoria merely reaffirms our commitment to the Comarca del Mármol in Almería. We continue and will continue to develop high added value innovative projects and create jobs here in this region. The new Dekton® factory and Intelligent Logistics Platform confirms our commitment to innovation and international leadership, expanding our range of high quality architectural solutions and providing the best possible service to our customers worldwide.”

In addition to the commitment to increase production capacity, product diversification, RD&i and competitive innovation, the economic growth of the Cosentino Group will continue to be based on internationalisation and geographical diversification.  In this area, the plans of the multinational are to encompass the opening of new Centres or integrated service platforms. During the next three years, the Cosentino Group plans to open 28 new Centres, to reach a figure of 90, following the expansion in the U.S. and focusing on Brazil as the fourth pillar of growth and diversification. It is also looking to the Asian market as an opportunity for further growth.

Pilar Martínez-Cosentino, Deputy Director, said: “Thanks to these strategic and specific investment policies, we expect to achieve sales growth above 15% in the majority of the markets in which we operate. The United States will strengthen as key growth market for us with a 16% annual growth, following the European market with a growth of 21%. Latin America, mainly Brazil as well as Australia, is also an area where we are investing and where we expect to grow.  At the end of 2012 we will have generated 83% of our revenues outside Spain and in 2014 we expect this figure to rise to 87%.”

DEKTON® BY COSENTINO

The new factory where the ultra-compact Dekton® by Cosentino surface will be manufactured will feature an innovative and unique technology worldwide called Particle Sintering Technology (PST). Particle Sinterising Technology has been developed exclusively by the Cosentino Group and combines technologies from the ceramic, flat glass and the quartz surface industry.

The commercial launch of Dekton® by Cosentino will be held in 2013 and is expected to revolutionise the market and become a great material for architects as it can be used in multiple high-value applications, in public and private spaces both inside and outdoors. Its uses and applications, ranging from flooring, stairs, cladding, ventilated façades for outdoor spaces and worktops and work surfaces.

Dekton® by Cosentino is a completely innovative product. It is an ultra-compact surface with superior technical characteristics, consisting of a mixture of inorganic materials. It can be used both indoors and outdoors thanks to its resistance to UV rays, and in order to respond to the demand for large formats in different thicknesses by professional architects, it will be manufactured in a large slab format (320cm x 144cm approximately) with thicknesses of around 1cm, 2cm and 3cm

Dekton® offers decoration in volume and infinite design possibilities. It can be manufactured in colours identical to wood, rust, natural stone, concrete, metal, and solid colours. It is available in a vast variety of textures, such as rippled, leather, denim, slate, brushed or coated.

The initial selection of colours and textures in which the first Dekton collection will be launched in 2013, responds to the intense market research carried out by Cosentino. The first Dekton collection will consist of a small number of colours and finishes. Later it will expand the portfolio of colours and textures of the brand, adapting to the demands and trends of each market.

COSENTINO GROUP INTELLIGENT LOGISTICS PLATFORM, CANTORIA INDUSTRIAL PARK (ALMERIA)

The new Cosentino Group Intelligent Logistics Platform is an automated distribution centre which will provide services to subsidiaries and Cosentino customers.

The Cosentino Group has invested 16 million euros for the implementation of this platform from which the shipment of Silestone®, Eco® by Cosentino and Dekton® by Cosentino will be organised to all markets where the company operates.

Cosentino’s Logistics Platform will prepare all slab orders with automatic assets, including the transfer of racks and loading of trucks and containers. The Platform will use the control and management software of all the warehouses “WMS” (Warehouse Management System) that will achieve excellence in customer service.

With a storage capacity of 115,000 slabs and 3,300 slabs loaded in trucks or containers in each shift, this sophisticated Intelligent Logistics Platform substantially improves services, communication and management with the hubs, Cosentino Centres and customers of the multinational from Almeria.
