Toto House
Grupo Aranea
Alacant, Spain
The firm Aranea has transformed an anodyne plot on the outskirts of Alicante into a place for Julia and Toto to live with their children.
The house, which had to go with a design studio for one of the owners, presents itself as an alternative to the clonal residential model that is so firmly ingrained along the coast; a new way of living and an architecture that evolves over time, open to experimentation and harnessing the kind Mediterranean climate through patios and gardens.
Sinuous intertwining concrete walls adapt to the edges of the property through a concatenation of courtyards that go about organizing the different rooms of the house. These patios alternate with water tanks, vegetable and citric gardens, and a pool, resulting in a residence that also welcomes clients and doubles as a showroom for Toto’s creations.
