Founded in Singapore in 2009 by Timo Wong and Priscilla Lui, Studio Juju has won numerous awards. In 2011, for example, they were named ‘Designers of the Future’ by Design Miami/Basel, based on the originality of their creative process and the high level of refinement in their finished pieces, as well as their noteworthy contribution to contemporary design discourse.

During Milan Design Week 2023, the most important design week in Europe and one of the most prestigious in the world, the studio presented OO, a collection of five objects in Dekton, made from drawings and precisely marked by circular holes. These iconic holes – abstract in function – form a unifying pattern across the pieces and are intended to spark the imagination and challenge how we use them... or the opposite.

‘When we started working with Cosentino, they offered us the possibility of using 20 mm Dekton Vicenza Kode, so we wanted to create the design exclusively in this material, without the need for a substrate to adhere it to. We set out to create a series of consoles for the home, characterised by abstract circular holes that invite us to imagine and find a use for them that is both imaginative and pragmatic,’ say the creators of Studio Juju.

Pietra Kode, the collection that combines classicism, future and sustainability

The designers’ choice of colour is part of the Pietra Kode collection, which is inspired by the ancient Italian stones. This collection embodies the legendary architect Vitruvius’ principles for a perfect city through three series: Vicenza Kode, Travertine Kode and Ceppo Kode.

‘We decided to use Dekton Vicenza Kode because of the quality of its surface, which has no direction of flow in its texture. It is therefore perfect for the OO collection, helping us to better represent its physical monolithic quality,’ say the studio’s professionals. This colour reinterprets the code of the classic Vicenza stone by reimagining the material that brought to life the villas and palaces of architect Andrea Palladio in the Cinquecento, a staunch defender of the principles of architecture established by Vitruvius.

The OO collection in Dekton Vicenza Kode: a timeless design in a timeless colour

Each colour in the Pietra Kode collection has been reformulated and given a new meaning that responds to the demands of the architecture and design of the future, while maintaining that shared code of beauty that has evolved over the centuries to connect classicism with modernity. So much so that their surfaces are 100% carbon neutral throughout their entire life cycle.

‘We knew that to complement Dekton’s carbon neutrality, we had to design pieces that were as pure and unique as the material itself. That would be built with the same purpose as the material itself and would stand the test of time,’ points out Studio Juju.

This concern is also reflected in the studio’s approach to design: ‘The OO collection works well in the home as a console, a surface for precious objects, decoration or everyday use, because the material and design are durable,’ the firm concludes.
