It is a historic event. For the first time, a design fair is being held in Madrid’s Las Ventas bullring: Madrid Inside Art & Design (MIAD). Taking place from 6th to 17th March, the event features stands from some of the industry’s leading professionals and brands, including the acclaimed Pepe Leal.
Leal, who lives just a few metres from the bullring, was inspired by the rounded shapes and traditional colours of the neo-Mudéjar inspired building to create his space: a hotel suite with a living room, rest area and bathroom. With this in mind, the layout is designed around two circumferences and the dominant colour is burgundy, the colour usually used for the bullpen gates (the gates through which the bulls enter the bullring).
At the same time, this colour is reminiscent of the interiors of the most sophisticated Milanese homes, in keeping with the origins of the stand’s sponsor, the Italian designer furniture brand Natuzzi.
Sensa, the perfect stone for sophisticated, high-traffic spaces
For the bathroom, Leal used the exclusive Sensa range of granites and quartzites with anti-stain protection, perfect for enjoying beautiful and functional spaces. Specifically, he chose Sensa Black Beauty, an exquisite Indian granite with a black background crossed by intricate white veins reminiscent of the foam of the waves in a wild ocean.
“Thanks to its treatment, it is a very hard and resistant material. I needed it to be like this because of the place where it was going to be used, a bathroom,” says Leal. In fact, Sensa is an exclusive stone and, at the same time, a low maintenance surface thanks to the revolutionary technology used by Cosentino in its manufacturing, a technology that is integrated into the very molecular structure of the surface in order to obtain a material that is easy to clean and does not require any sealing.
When making his choice, Leal also considered the feel and touch of the stone, which is available in the Sensa Caresse finish. This textured finish is the perfect combination of shine and matt, offering a luxurious and soft caress.
Beyond the bathroom, where Leal used Sensa Black Beauty to create an elegant towel rail with a custom-made shelf, the interior designer used the same surface to create another piece for the living room. “I liked the material so much that I designed a special table for the event. It’s amazing because you can leave a glass of wine on it without a care in the world; it’s a very practical material and at the same time very beautiful, thanks to its very special veining, which plays with greys and blacks,” says Leal.
