Stone is poetic: nature, craftsmanship and sensitivity come together at the Cosentino stand at Marbella Design & Art 2022

“If you thought you were unique, we’re sorry, you’re 99.9% the same as everyone else”. This headline from an article in La Vanguardia daily newspaper served as inspiration for the concept of the Cosentino stand at Marbella Design & Art 2022, a concept that was developed by Paco Lago Interioriza. The reason? The protagonists of the space, the Onirika and Kraftizen series, are 99.9% identical to natural stone. “This allowed us to play with genetics as a conceptual element”, says the studio.

Onirika is a collection that unites the poetic and unique beauty of stones harnessed by Dekton technology. The collection is named after the lavish inspiration of two worlds conveyed in marbled colours designed to captivate our eyes and to infuse any space with a dreamy feel.

Meanwhile, Kraftizen pays tribute to the master craftsmen and the techniques they have perfected over the centuries with a series of five colours that are versatile, beautiful and honest, as well as hard-wearing and durable. Its textures and volumes create silky and extra matt colours ideal for cladding floors, walls, tables, worktops and any other space with a timeless character.

The Marbella Design & Art fair is held every November for 11 days during which an area of 3,000 square metres of the Marbella Trade Fair and Conference Centre is transformed into one of the largest showcases of contemporary art and interior design through a highly innovative installation format.

Throughout its more than 50 spaces, big names in design give shape to unique creations using materials from more than 150 exclusive brands and bringing together the latest trends in interior, residential and contract design.

For the Cosentino stand, Paco Lago Interioriza used slabs from the Onirika and Kraftizen collections by Dekton to clad floors, pedestals, room dividers, walls, light boxes and a number of innovative elements. In doing so, the studio captured the strong resemblance of these collections to natural stone, as well as the sensitivity of their textures and patterns.

“When Cosentino contacted us to present the new Dekton collections at a fair that was not a trade fair but an exhibition where we were surrounded by creativity and design, we came up with a different way of presenting the product. We designed a space that plays with visual deception and mixes the reality of nature with the reality of Cosentino. We wanted people to ask themselves which part of the stand is artificially created and which part has been created through nature”, says Lago.

“We created an interactive environment for the visitor, using natural materials and textures together with Dekton products, creating trompe l’oeils and deceiving visitors into ‘rediscovering’ the space through the senses”, the studio says. And they continue: “We present Dekton to the user from another perspective, turning to different techniques to use the material in creative applications that go beyond wall cladding and kitchens”.
