Here’s Kusnin Tan, one of the founding designers at KNQ Associates & Home Rejuvenation, a boutique design firm specialising in the art of making over living spaces. Kusnin found his true calling in designing when he had an idea of wanting to build a house ever since childhood. Through the years, this idea grew with him in pictures and drawing, and finally graduated into getting a degree in interior architecture.
“Being very much influenced by arts (both classical & modern) and philosophy, I keep several ‘mantras’ close at heart, such as - ‘God is in the detail’ (Mies van der Rohe), ‘The whole is greater than the sum of its parts’ (Aristotle), etc. Therefore, my designs do evolve along the way.”
Best Of Both Worlds
Kusnin’s styling and designs truly capture the essence of a modern living space, while also exuding a sense of timelessness and traditionalism. Playing with cool and warm tones, Kusnin creates harmony between the space’s modern elements and the classics.
Finding Class In The Whimsy
Kusnin embraces the weird and whimsy in every space without judgement, finding a way to balance hues and tones to create a more mysterious and mature environment for every adult’s inner child and their safe space full of bits and bobs.
“I'm a strong believer in sustainability. I believe that good design will enable us to live ‘naturally’ in our habitat, enhancing & sustaining our lifestyle within the environment where we live.”
On the Future of Interior Design and Architecture
“I have been working with Cosentino materials for many years, first with Silestone when it was introduced in Singapore. It is reassuring that Cosentino consistently improves and innovates its surfaces, such as antibacterial features in Silestone, a breathable and stain-resistant coating in Sensa, and carbon-neutral properties in Dekton, making it easier for us as designers to include it in our design proposals.”
