Where It All Started
John realised that design was his calling several years ago, and having been in the design industry for over two decades, it has only further solidified this passion of his. “In the realm of interiors, my journey is an enduring exploration of harmonising form and function, weaving simplicity and functionality into spaces that showcase the artistry of craftsmanship”.
For SingEr, her inspirations came from watching and observing her father as he delved into his works as an advertisement and signboard designer and fabricator. Her passion in designing was further enforced after receiving her first ever Lego set, which introduced her to the delights of crafting and creating personal spaces. “I’ve since experienced that a home best shines when it reflects the owners’ personalities. Designing with clients in mind, I employ my experience to shape the owners preferences into lifelong homes”.
On Their Personal Styles
John: My personal style revolves around refined simplicity and timeless aesthetic. This ethos seamlessly translates into my projects where each design is a reflection of my belief that interiors should echo one’s personality. I strive to create spaces that after tasteful experience, harmonise simplicity with enduring elegance to resonate with both functionality and a sense of timelessness.
SingEr: My design philosophy revolves around the belief that a home is more than a structure; it's a unique and evolving canvas reflecting the joy, comfort, and individuality of its residents. I tend to avoid extensive built-ins, emphasising the importance of the layout as the foundation, much like crafting a canvas. My aspiration is for my designs to be timeless, steering clear of transient trends and focusing on enduring aesthetics and functionality.
The Defining "I Made It" Moment
John: My most significant “I made it” moment is the consistent joy and satisfaction felt upon handing over diverse projects to distinct owners. Utilising a range of beautiful, natural and sustainable materials has been a fulfilling journey, creating spaces that reflect not just design expertise but also a commitment to enhancing lives through thoughtful aesthetics.
SingEr: Equally major are moments when my client expresses that the space I've crafted is precisely what they desired, and the ambiance resonates with their identity. This never fails to renew my desire to design with a focus on the client's essence and to create an ideal home uniquely tailored to them.
The Importance Of Sustainability
John: Maintaining a delicate balance between aesthetics and functional practicality is a fundamental aspect of my projects. By seamlessly integrating sustainable materials and timeless design principles, I strive to create spaces that not only captivate visually but also serve their occupants with optimal functionality and long lasting appeal.
SingEr: Prioritising sustainable materials is crucial. We go beyond durability, actively seeking options aligned with timeless design and a commitment to environmental responsibility. Incorporating sustainable materials is not just a choice; it’s the deliberate commitment to contributing to a more eco-friendly world that serves to create healthier spaces.
Mesmerising Monochrome
In their latest project, John Au and SingEr Fang create a monochromatic haven, making use of Sensa Black Beauty, Silestone White Arabesque and Dekton Argentium, balancing the lights and the darks to create a visually pleasing and functionally durable home.
