Yenny Lee and Shanice Ho are two passionate designers at Mesh Werk Studio. With their motto of “Form Follows Function”, Mesh Werk Studio and its designers believe that the beauty of an interior space should capture the connection between human interaction & space, giving form to function and life to a space. Dedicated to creating innovative interiors with a combination of artistic judgement and technical knowledge, Yenny Lee and Shanice Ho’s latest projects involve residential home makeovers, featuring Cosentino.
Where It All Started
Yenny Lee realised that design was her true calling when she visited an open house showroom with her family as a child, imagining the countless ways she would arrange the space. Thai sparked her imagination and passion to pursue design as her college degree.
As for Shanice Ho, she was always inclined towards the arts, often finding herself doodling in her notebooks. She pursued this passion for the arts after graduation, having realised her strong likeness and curiosity towards the process behind creating and designing spaces.
On Their Personal Styles
Yenny: The design philosophy in Mesh Werk Studio is ‘form follows function’ and thus we would always strive towards concepts that are not only beautiful but practical in our client’s day to day life. Every project is a dwelling where our clients spend most of their time in, especially in land scarce Singapore, we need to ensure that our designs are pleasing and purposeful.
Shanice: Since our company doesn’t stick to one particular style, it pushes us to be very versatile, tending to each clients’ requirements as necessary. Personally, I try to dive into as many themes as possible, understanding what every theme’s main focus is along the way.
The Defining "I Made It" Moment
Yenny: To be honest, I don’t think that I have made it. I think that everything is a learning process and I am currently just enjoying the challenges, hoping to one day be able to make my mark in the industry.
Shanice: Recently, I personally went down to one of my client’s place to pass on a CNY gift. It had been about 1-2 years after its completion, and upon arrival they told me how they really liked the flow of the house and the colour scheme that made it comfortable. They would explain to their friends as well, how I as an ID had achieved their visions. I think that’s what really motivates me to continue in this field.
The Importance Of Sustainability
Yenny: Adhering to our company’s philosophy, being sustainable ensures that we remain functional for the next generation. Sustainable materials allow for many more beautifully designed homes years into the future.
Shanice: As materials affect the environment as well as our well-being, we do our part by introducing materials that have green labels and explaining the benefits of using such materials to our clients. By also sourcing for new materials, we can find better alternatives to replace outdated ones.
Patagonia Redefined
In this project, Yenny and Shanice make use of Dekton Khalo, inspired by the Patagonia Natural Stone, creating a visually appealing TV area that screams sophistication in every angle.
On Working With Cosentino
Yenny: With Cosentino, I am assured that the product is able to meet the high-quality demands of our designs and that it is able to further elevate our work. I would recommend it to all my clients, especially if they are specifically seeking for beautiful and higher quality materials.
Shanice: Working with Cosentino has been problem-free as I don’t have clients coming back and asking how to touch up their tops. Many clients also like the finishes of the materials used as well as its durability.
On The Future Of The Industry
Yenny: We have observed that our clients are getting more informed about sustainability, having gotten a lot more requests about incorporating environmentally friendly materials into our designs. I do think that with the government’s initiatives and further education of the importance of sustainability, the industry is moving towards the same directions with more clients being adamant on their own carbon footprint during renovations.
Shanice: As everyone is becoming more aware about the importance of sustainability, we might be seen using more sustainable materials in the near future, as more people want to understand the materials that they are using and incorporate sustainable elements to their spaces.
“Cosentino’s high-quality materials have provided us with the confidence to furnish my clients’ homes with the best work tops and wall cladding without any worry.”
