The brief given to designer Ariella Goren was not an easy one: to create a floor with the highest brightness, with the cleanest possible appearance and which could dress both the interior and exterior of a guesthouse. This house occupies the upper part of a duplex residence in Israel, has a 100 square metre terrace and features a bedroom, a bathroom and a living room/kitchen integrated into a large, open-plan space.

Goren’s proposal was a sleek, contemporary flat that is both fresh and casual, with a relaxed feel and reminiscent of the sea. As for the ‘challenge’ of the floor, the designer only had to take a quick look at Cosentino’s catalogue to find a solution.

“I looked for tiles that were sturdy and durable enough to be used outdoors so as to create continuity between the interior space and the terrace. I wanted a low absorption material that would not scratch easily and would be easy to maintain, especially given the customers’ desire to use a very bright colour. Dekton offered me the solution to all my requirements; in the end, it was a pretty easy choice”, says the interior designer.

20 mm Dekton for a beautiful and functional floating floor

The colour chosen was Zenith, a Nordic white that is perfect for fresh, airy spaces and provides the clean, matt finish desired by the owners. However, a new challenge arose when it came to install it: “The biggest challenge of the project was in relation to the floor of the 100 square metre outdoor space. We wanted to use the Dekton slabs in their original dimensions (3200 x 1440 mm) for both the interior and exterior space, maintaining the necessary slope for drainage”, she explains.

After some thought, Goren’s solution was to build a floating floor, so that the floor would be both functional and visually pleasing. “What really allowed us to create the floating floor was the 20 mm Dekton slab, which is robust enough for use in this type of application. In this way we were able to maintain the size of the outdoor slabs to match the ones indoors”, says the interior designer.

A touch of the sea thanks to Dekton Liquid Shell

The master suite in this guesthouse features fine parquet flooring. And this was the final challenge of the renovation: it had to match the adjoining bathroom, which is an integral part of the room. So, which cladding to choose? Once again, Goren turned to Cosentino. This time, she let herself be inspired by the sea, whose blue colour can be seen from the bedroom.

“The entire suite has been designed so that guests can enjoy the views during their stay, both from the bedroom and the bathroom. To continue the dialogue with the parquet flooring and capture the views, we chose Dekton Liquid Shell for the bathroom walls, a colour reminiscent of sea sand and which fits in perfectly with the concept and design of the bedroom”, Goren says finally.
