Master Your Space: Organizing Kitchen Cabinets

Did you know tidiness and order are extremely important for our wellbeing? There are several studies which correlate messiness to stress, including a 2011 study from the Princeton Neuroscience Institute. This study concluded that to concentrate and process information correctly, we need to ensure the space we are in is tidy, whether that be our home or office. The study shows that we are less irritable, more productive, and less distracted in an organized space.

Keeping our kitchen tidy is one of the main challenges that every family faces due to our busy and on-the-go lifestyle, the number of jobs done in the kitchen, and the sheer number of objects and utensils that we have to store there.

The kitchen is the heart of the home, but it can also be the heart of chaos. That is why we want to help you  avoid chaos with a few tips from organization specialists.

Organizing Your Kitchen Cabinets is Key

If we focus specifically on the benefits of keeping our kitchen tidy, we will find a long list:

  • Through tidiness and order, we are more aware of everything we have stored away and we can make more efficient use of the space available.
  • We avoid buying thigs we don’t need, resulting in savings.
  • We waste less food by knowing exactly what we have in our pantry.
  • We save time when cooking or cleaning the kitchen.
  • We can create a recycling area.
  • We reduce visual noise and overstimulation, which produces a sense of calmness and wellbeing.
  • We show off our clear and clean countertop.

This all ensures that we enjoy our kitchen even more and spend more time there with our family, cooking and having fun together.

How can a professional organizer help you?

Organizing the inside of your kitchen cabinets is a difficult task, but a professional organizer can be highly useful. This profession, popularized by Marie Kondo, is increasingly popular in the United States as these organizers help families get their homes in order and live an overall better life. Tips to Organize the Interior of Your Kitchen Cabinets

If you have a large kitchen with plenty of storage space, it is easier to have a place for everything. However, you still need to be disciplined, because it is easy to run out of space if we lack control.

On the other hand, if you have a small kitchen, we need to be smart when using our space and look for ingenious solutions that maximize every square inch.

According to the method put forward by Roberta Schira in her book “The Joy of Tidying Up the Kitchen”, you need to take all of the food and utensils that you do not eat or use out of the kitchen. The less utensils and food, the more space, and the cleaner it will be.

If you want to organize inside your kitchen cabinets, we recommend you give yourself a day to do it and follow these steps:

  1. Take everything out of them and take a look at all the items you have accumulated.
  2. Separate them into categories.
  3. Put to one side anything that is broken, expired, or that you have not used in the last year.
  4. Recycle, give away, or sell everything that you have set aside.
  5. Look for suitable storage systems for each category, based on the size and number of items.
  6. Allocate a location for each category and use tags to define each space.

How to Organize Inside Your Kitchen Cabinets?

Once you have decided where each category will go, start to organize the inside of your cabinets. To do that we are going to follow the tips of the professional organizer LUA SPACES:

  • In the most easily accessible cabinets, place those items that you use every day, and in the highest or farthest away, place the items you use less.
  • Use storage systems for your draws and cabinets to help maximize the use of the space.
  • Use glass or methacrylate containers for items in your pantry, to have a better view of the food you have and to provide more visual cleanliness.
  • Use the entire height space of the cabinets, making use of shelves.
  • Organize towels and cloths vertically, along with pan lids and Tupperware lids, using separators for draws and cabinets.
  • Stack pans and skillets, placing the smallest ones into the largest ones.

A clean and tidy kitchen with Cosentino

In addition to keeping the inside of your cabinets tidy, it is just as important to keep your countertop clean and clear. At Cosentino we recommend our Dekton and Silestone surfaces and claddings due to their easy maintenance and wide array of benefits in terms of hygiene.

Both DEKTON and Silestone are ideal for countertops due to their low porosity and high resistance, meaning that we can use any regular cleaning product we like on them without a worry.

Their large format panels mean there are minimal surface joints and they are therefore more hygienic and easier to maintain. Not to mention the esthetic and minimal clean lines that these formats add to any design.
