Cosentino crews celebrate a trio of Independence Days in Southeast Asia
Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia celebrate their respective National Day and Independence Days in August. Here is what our colleagues and partners on the ground have to say.
The month of August in Southeast Asia is marked by the birthday celebrations of three countries – Singapore’s National Day on 9 August, Indonesia’s Independence Day on 17 August and Malaysia’s Independence Day on 31 August. Commemorating these milestones, we ask our colleagues and partners in each country to share their thoughts.
Celine See, Singapore
For Celine See, Showroom Manager of Cosentino City Singapore, Singapore’s National Day represents national pride. “It’s the day we say that we will count on ourselves to achieve greater heights,” she says. “It’s a symbol of our self-determination to show the world that despite being a tiny little red dot on the world map, our voices are loud and clear.”
On this year’s National Day, she is looking forward to watching the live National Day Parade (NDP) with her family from the comfort of her home, singing along to the National Day songs, and watching the majestic fighter jets and fireworks from her balcony.

“Independence Day is a reminder to ourselves to be brave and to take chances in exploring opportunities, especially in the growing era of technology,” says Vivi Indrijani, Executive Director of Builders Shop Indonesia, one of Cosentino’s Indonesian distribution partners. “We should never stop taking risks.”
On this year’s Independence Day, the team at Builders Shop Indonesia hopes to build a stronger sense of community with festive celebrations.
Stephanie Lim, Indonesia
Over at Cadenza, another Cosentino partner in Indonesia, the team is looking forward to put on a patriotic front to celebrate Hari Kemerdekaan, which means Independence Day. “When we talk about Independence Day, it reminds me of freedom. From freedom to express our opinion, freedom to choose our leader… and many more. This is why we are grateful for our founding father and national heroes who have fought bravely for our freedom,” says Stephanie Lim, a team member from Cadenza.

“Our Independence Day, also known as Hari Merdeka or National Day, is a symbol of our country’s unity and diversity today,” shares Izzah Farzana, Specialist at Cosentino Centre Malaysia. “It inspires a patriotic spirit in our hearts and reminds us of our forefathers’ struggle to achieve independence and continuous effort to ensure the nation’s peace and harmony.”
She looks forward to celebrating the day at Dataran Merdeka. The celebration will include ceremonies and parades by the government services such as the military, the police force, naval forces and many more. “Schoolchildren also participate in the event, which is another sign of how the nation’s younger generation takes pride in the country’s independence,” she adds.
