Embrace your inner chef this International Chefs Day with Cosentino

International Chefs Day is an annual celebration of the culinary maestros from around the world, who tirelessly strive to satisfy their hungry customers. But this day is not just limited to professional chefs – it is a chance for food enthusiasts and aspiring chefs alike to join in the festivities. Many across the globe partake in cooking events and competitions, visit their favourite restaurants and offer thank you tips to their chefs, or even spend the day cooking for themselves, family or friends, as a way to commemorate the day.

So, on this special occasion, we reminisce about a few memorable moments with our chef friends, while looking at a few ways to celebrate and appreciate the remarkable chefs everywhere. So, grab your aprons and let's embark on a gastronomic journey to honour the unsung heroes of the kitchen, with Cosentino’s Dekton collection.

Passing on your skills and wisdom to your young ones

For those with children, a great way to commemorate the day would be to engage in an intimate cooking session with them. This makes for a great bonding time, while also imparting generational knowledge when it comes to the kitchen. It could also serve as a way to inspire the young to explore the world of cooking for themselves too. Regardless of how old your children are, cooking can be a fun activity that can make way for a great time and greater memories.

However, it goes without saying that this can be a hard task if the children are very young, as they tend to climb on counters, knock over things, and make a mess. In such cases, a strong surface is necessary, that can not only withstand the tension but also make your life easier when it's time to clean up, which makes the Dekton Liquid collection a good option to consider.

The three Michelin-starred restaurant Zen, can definitely vouch for Dekton’s unique features and durability, as the restaurant’s interior makes use of the Dekton Liquid Shell design. Tristin Farmer, resident chef at Zen, who constantly strives to push his cooking and chase delicious foods, describes Liquid Shell as “hard-wearing, resistant to heat, fire, stains and scratches” while also brightening the space and making it look “super cool”. And so, a vibrant, dynamic, yet functional kitchen workspace can perfectly encapsulate the excitement and intimacy of a parent-child bonding experience.

Engaging in group cooking sessions or potlucks

What better way to celebrate food and the art of making it, than getting together with your loved ones and exchanging pleasantries over a plate of delicious items? Whether it be cooking together with your family or friends, or inviting them over for a potluck session, it can make for a fun-filled and personal bonding experience that creates lasting memories. Food, and cooking, is a lot more than simply putting ingredients together. Rather, it is a medley of culture, skills, and traditions that have passed down and evolved through generations.

Hence, getting together with those closest to you makes for an unforgettable time together, simultaneously making the food you eat taste a whole lot better too. A part and parcel of this experience is, of course, the spills and stains that often adorn the tables and countertops in the kitchen after everyone is done grabbing their share of food. Such a setting would require a surface that withstands everything from minor spills to even rough stains, wear and tear, and Cosentino’s Dekton Stonika collection makes for an excellent candidate.

The Dekton collection’s designs take the centrestage at Chef Ivan Brehm’s one Michelin-starred restaurant Nouri and his personal project restaurant Appetite, that fuses food, art and music. When asked about his approach to cooking and the reason behind selecting the Dekton’s designs, Ivan states, “At the heart of the matter lies humanity’s ability to transform and evolve problem solving into culture and tradition. Our alignment with Cosentino as a brand stems from this understanding. I see a brand whose approach to functionality and durability (problem solving), is expressed in the most beautiful designs and solutions (culture)”. Hence, a durable and functional kitchen surface is your best partner for those memorable group gatherings, where you can have a good time without ever having to worry about cleaning up.

Trying out or creating a new recipe

Truly embrace your inner chef by trying your hand at a new recipe, or even creating one from scratch. Of course, this activity can be undertaken as a group, but a solo adventure in the kitchen can be a therapeutic and rewarding experience. Getting out of your comfort zone, and trying something new, can be daunting but equally exciting. Spending time by yourself, with nothing but your necessary ingredients and utensils to keep you company, can be a great way to connect with yourself while also challenging yourself in a different way.

Although it is easy to lose motivation and inspiration when you are all by yourself, especially when you can anticipate the chaos that could ensue when it comes to a new recipe. From burning and scratching things, to completely obliterating your meal, a lot of things could go wrong when trying something new for the first time, and so it becomes a necessity to have a kitchen that can take it all.

The Dekton natural collection is a great option for such scenarios, which even the most professional chefs can swear by. Chef Lennard Yeong, a self-taught finalist of MasterChef Asia and a resident chef at Miele, is one such professional who has made use of the collection’s Rem design in his home kitchen studio. “I looked around at other materials but ultimately settled on Dekton because of my fully integrated hob. There are times when I have to place hot pots and pans on the counter and having a Dekton countertop just gives me more ease of mind in the kitchen knowing that it can handle the heat. The patterns on the stone is really beautiful. It integrates seamlessly with the rest of the kitchen but it also stands out and looks strong on its own. That's the beauty of a good stone countertop”, he explains when asked about his decision to opt for Dekton in his kitchen workspace. A solo culinary adventure is a great way to honour International Chefs Day, and no adventure can be complete without the right safety gears.

With international Chefs Day around the corner, regardless of how you decide to celebrate, it is important to have a functional and inspirational kitchen workspace that aids you in your mission to create magic with your fingers, whether it be for yourself, your partner, kids, friends, and/or family.
