Special Showroom Spotlights Dekton & Silestone

When five interior designers collaborated to revamp their Auckland office and showroom, there were plenty of opinions about how the space should look and feel. Yellowfox’s design professionals agreed that Cosentino’s Dekton and Silestone were perfect for their commercial workspace.

The design company, which also has studios in Tauranga and Hamilton and is known for creating stunning kitchens and interior spaces all over New Zealand, renovated its Auckland studio in 2022. The team had to work with existing exposed concrete walls and a restricted budget. They wanted the fit out to stand the test of time, rather than showcase of-the-moment trends, so that it wouldn’t date too quickly.

“We were looking to create a warm, inviting atmosphere that was both calming and uplifting for our visiting clients,” explains Peta Davy, Yellowfox’s design studio manager. “We needed to consider what trends were here for the long term and what could potentially date the space in the not-so-distant future. It was important to us to use warmer, creamier tones than the standard grey and white, which our industry has been saturated with over the last 10 years. We splashed out on a few special pieces and pared back the rest. And we paired industrial elements with more traditional details, like a turned leg on our display island, to create a slightly eclectic mix of styles.”

The end result is a beautiful space with a neutral palette. Warm wooden accents and black joinery and pieces of furniture complement the utilitarian concrete walls and beige and ecru soft furnishings, countertops and floor coverings soften the space. A trio of Dekton colours were selected for work tops: Dekton Nilium mitred with 60mm edges for one island display benchtop, Dekton Laos for another, and Dekton Sirius for the storage cabinetry benchtop, where it was important that samples could be hidden so as not to be too distracting during consultations.

“Dekton is a wonderful product to both specify and work with,” says Davy. “The colours are reliably, consistent, and the product is bulletproof. Many of our clients comment that Dekton is the best surface they have ever worked on.”

The team agreed on Silestone Nolita Suede for their staff kitchen – a beautiful, serene space.

“At Yellowfox we align ourselves with the companies that share our vision of quality, have a healthy respect for our global environment, and respect the quality of life of the people that work with and around the product,” says Davy. “Cosentino has a great reputation as industry leaders in innovation and sustainability.”
