The Big Déco Theory and Une Maison Douce studios decided to combine their talent and creativity to not miss the opportunity to participate in the renovation project of the restaurant of the La Bastide Bourrelly Hotel in Cabriès, France.
The initial idea was to give a second life to the Bourrelly Inn, a long-established local institution, while preserving its strong spirit of hospitality. It was precisely the new owners who contacted them in order to create a unique atmosphere combining the liveliness of a village square and the calm of a Provencal bastide.
Both studios judged it necessary to retain some of the existing elements. Thus, the bar’s checkerboard floor was renovated to revive its retro spirit, and the rounded shape of the building played an important role in the decorative elements.
The curve leads the way
With these premises in mind, Une Maison Douce and The Big Déco Theory made extensive use of curves in the restaurant’s design. In this sense, they designed a rounded bar top reminiscent of the shape of the hotel. To enhance the curved bar top, they opted for Silestone Et Marquina, “a modern, long-lasting and environmentally friendly colour,” they say.
In the restaurant, the custom-made round tables echo the circular recesses that house the lamps. The idea was to use noble and sturdy materials for these tables. That’s why they chose Dekton Awake, a colour that combines perfectly with walnut wood and brass.
Warm shades and soft materials
As for the colours, the two studios chose warm shades inspired by the natural surroundings and the Mediterranean spirit: green, ochre and terracotta shades are combined with soft and timeless colours and materials such as linen.
The lighting required special attention. “In order to accentuate the lighting, we opted for light-coloured walls and floors. The chandeliers in the lobby and restaurant were designed specifically for the hotel. They stand out gracefully as the centrepiece of the décor, while providing a warm, soft light.”
Pure Provencal essence
Life at La Bastide Bourrelly also unfolds in the gardens, with a restaurant area that features the colours of the Mediterranean and is shaded by plane trees, and which is extended by a pleasant lounge around the petanque court.
The identity of La Bastide Bourrelly is thus a fine balance between contemporary style associated with genuine pieces, a retro spirit and a modern character that creates a natural refinement while preserving its Provencal roots.
