Let’s travel to the tranquil setting of the Sanabria mountains, specifically to Zamora, Spain, to visit a holiday home that has recently been transformed by the LD Interiorismo team and where Cosentino materials play a key role. “We have used different Dekton stones in every corner of the house,” say the project managers, highlighting the importance of the materials in the final result. The challenge was to create a modern house in a rural setting, striking a balance between tradition and innovation.
From the very beginning, the choice of Dekton materials was decisive and, above all, proved to be the right one in view of their durability, aesthetics and versatility. The project mainly used 4 Dekton colours – Morpheus, Albarium, Somnia and Neural – throughout the house, which were used for the design of most of the floors, the stairs, the kitchens, the bathrooms, the fireplace and even a piece of furniture in the master bedroom.
“We wanted a hard-wearing floor with a more industrial feel… We made a selection of all the materials to be used in the project to play with them and their combination,” says the team. Later, another Cosentino material came into play in the form of a striking, large-format, bespoke table “in which the Dekton slab was used almost in its entirety,” they further say.
An essential tool for architects: the versatility of materials
This house is the perfect example of Dekton’s versatility and its ability to transform residential spaces that, at first glance, may seem difficult to execute. This material made it possible to combine different thicknesses and formats, achieving a consistent and fluid design throughout the house. “Working with Dekton was a great success in terms of finishes. At the design level, having all these options from a single manufacturer makes our work much easier because it allows us to create seamless and perfectly connected spaces throughout the house. It is wonderful when you design using a single finish and you can use that finish for different applications,” the studio says.
A floor that can become a vanity unit? It is possible. A kitchen worktop that can be used in your master bathroom and with which you can create a piece of furniture for your bedroom? Yes, that is also possible. And it goes even further: a kitchen worktop that blends in with the fireplace in the living room and can also be used as a bathroom cladding? Unbelievable but true. “There is no need for decoration other than the materials themselves,” says the studio.
It is not only about aesthetics, but also about technical performance
Indeed, Dekton was chosen not only for its appearance, but also for its technical performance. “It is a highly stain-resistant material, easy to maintain and features an outstanding aesthetic finish,” they say.
The architectural challenge, as is often the case, went beyond aesthetics: the logistics and meticulous installation of the materials by Cosentino were key. The complicated access and irregular walls required meticulous planning. “There were many architectural challenges… The floor is incredibly well fitted, all L-joints are mitre cut and executed on the same panel, as is the case with the kitchen worktops, which are perfect,” the studio says.
In addition, the studio highlighted the human factor in its collaboration with Cosentino, which went beyond the supply of materials: “Our choice was due to the technical properties, colour, texture and size of the slabs, but also thanks to the commercial service we received from the beginning.”
The renovation of this house is a demonstration of the impact that materials can have on an architectural project. LD Interiorismo has succeeded not only in transforming a structure, but also in creating a space in which innovation, functionality and aesthetics blend harmoniously.
