As an Antwerp native, Droika Engelen fell in love with the authentic beauty of the many townhouses that are characteristic of the city. It was during her walks through the streets of Antwerp that she found her calling as an interior architect. After a successful study, she effortlessly rolled into the profession. As an interior architect, she also enjoyed training as a rough construction project manager. She applies this technical knowledge daily in creating total concepts and high-quality interior designs. Her conviction is that interior and architecture are inextricably linked and reinforce each other.
With ten years of experience in the construction sector and a passion for interior architecture, it was time for Droika, as a young mother, to make a change. After a few years as a self-employed person in a secondary profession, she took the plunge and started her own business. Now she works on various projects, from high-end villas to collaborations with project developers. Her entrepreneurial spirit takes her to new horizons, such as a potential project abroad. With determination and growth plans, she remains driven to share her passion for architecture and design at an international level.
A mid-century dream home for Droika's family
These new developments also brought her to more personal projects, such as designing her own home. Droika opted for a mid-century atmosphere with materials such as walnut and natural stone as the undisputed stars of her design. But to add a contemporary touch, she integrated polished concrete as a floor, an original move that perfectly combines warmth and modernity.
Droika's choice of materials is based on her love for vintage and her need for maintenance-friendliness as an interior architect and mother. She found the perfect compromise in Dekton by Cosentino: durable, stain-resistant, and fire-resistant, yet with the aesthetic beauty of natural stone.
Her choice fell on Dekton Aeris for the kitchen countertop and bathroom because the warm beige hue is the perfect neutral base for the other materials and finishes used, such as walnut and natural stone, to fully come into their own. Dekton blurs the line between aesthetics and practical use, making her home a dream home, both in terms of design and lifestyle.
