Cosentino’s stunning Silestone and Dekton surfaces featured in the 2023 Samsung Bespoke Home Challenge, a South African design challenge encouraging young interior designers to create an integrated living space with a Samsung Bespoke Refrigerator as its centrepiece.
The second-ever edition of this exciting competition saw the four finalists, Zwelibanzi Nzuza, Maresa Maartens, Keneilwe Mothoa and Mbali Maseko, incorporate slabs of Cosentino surfaces into their stunning spaces.
The competition
The four young interior designers were given the option to select three slabs in the colour of their choice from Cosentino’s diverse surface range focused on Dekton Onirika, Dekton Kraftizen and Silestone Sunlit Days, which they then used to bring to life their bespoke spaces, which were inspired by the colour palettes ‘Clean White’, ‘Satin Grey’, ‘Satin Sky Blue’ and ‘Glam Pink’.
Both Silestone and Dekton were used in various sizes and colours by the contestants. These two Cosentino brands are extremely popular with architects and interior designers around the globe for their blend of natural beauty and innovative technology.
Winning surfaces
Nzuza, a final-year design student from KwaZulu-Natal, was crowned the winner of the Samsung Bespoke Home Challenge. His space, themed around the ‘Clean White’ palette, featured Cosentino’s Silestone, a premium hybrid surface made from natural minerals and recycled materials, in serene Posidonia Green, as well as slabs of Dekton’s ultracompact stone, in marbled Morpheus white and subtle Micron grey.
‘I perceived a high-spiritedness in the Bespoke fridge, which is the centrepiece of the design,’ Nzuza explained, about the inspiration behind his ‘easy on the eye’ winning design. ‘That inspired sophistication and playfulness in my approach, and I tried to use that as an anchor and a common thread in everything else.’
Maartens, a recent Interior Design honours graduate from Pretoria, took second place. She skilfully utilised Cosentino's Silestone in Cincel Grey and Dekton in Trance in her elegant and minimalist design, which revolved around Samsung's ‘Satin Grey’ palette.
