Waterside Elegance, Chichester

The customer wanted the colour scheme of their new kitchen to pick up on the views across the harbour. They also specifically requested a seating area which both formed part of the kitchen and looked out over the water. Practically speaking, they were looking for ample storage space, including a discreet bar for a large drinks collection. To deliver on this colour scheme, the obvious choice for the unit colours would have been sea blue, but besides being predictable, this would have left the design with little depth. Instead, the design uses Graphite Satin Lacquer furniture, whose cool tones tie in with the blue accents, whilst providing enough contrast to really make those lighter blues stand out. The Hi-Macs worktop in Emerald is used for the breakfast bar and flows around the top of the seating area, while the blue gradient of the splashbacks resembles a sea view. The Silestone Snowy Ibiza worktops are crucial in bringing the design together, marrying with all the other colours and enhancing the room’s light and airy feel. Not only the design’s colours but also its shapes are a nod to the waterside location. The curves of the island were designed to give its edges the same kind of fluidity as the waves outside. Executing this was not easy, as the customer specifically requested that there be minimal joins in the worksurface, so the island also had to be designed in a way that used the biggest single piece of worktop possible. Another significant challenge was incorporating the structural column into the design of the island. As for the understated bar area, the drinks collection hides behind glass-fronted doors which fit flush to the worksurface, and underneath, chilled drinks sit inside the integrated wine fridge. On the other side of the kitchen, the Neff Slide & Hide ovens were placed at eye-level in mid-height housing so as not to seem too imposing to those sat in the living area. #CosentinoWe #WeAreCosentino #CosentinoBestKitchen22
