Minimalist design tables

The first pieces of furniture designed by Laurent Maugoust’s eponymous editor, in collaboration with his artistic director Cécile Chenais, are two sculptural tables with a lot of character and a graphic and dramatic design. Both were presented at the Silvera Saint-Germain showroom in Paris, with an exhibition that allows us to fully appreciate their textures and colours, among which Sensa and Scalea by Cosentino stand out.

With their Mantis table and Naïl coffee table, the creative pair have established a dialogue between materials and shapes which revolves around the geometric character of the design and a spirit that is as demanding as it is refined.

An ideal surface

Sensa Vancouver quartzite and Scalea Verde Guaco marble were the natural stones chosen for the design of these two tables. “Sensa was a great discovery in terms of product, originality and technology. Choosing Vancouver to create this table with such a special, organic and sensual touch is a real success”, explains Cécile Chenais.

Indeed, thanks to the Senguard NK protection, specially developed by Cosentino for the Sensa colour range, the material is exceptionally resistant to stains, aggressive and acidic substances and scratches, while at the same time being easy to maintain on a daily basis, making it an ideal surface. It is also NSF certified, which confirms it as a suitable surface for food contact, with no risk of staining or damage. In this way Sensa combines classic beauty with cutting edge technology, thus maintaining the natural colour of the stone.

Versatile materials

“The interesting thing about Cosentino is that its materials are very versatile. These include natural stones like Sensa, ultracompact and ultra resistant surfaces like Dekton and high tech materials of great aesthetic value like Silestone. They can therefore be used in kitchens as well as for high-end design and the creation of unique objects, which is what we did with this table and coffee table”, explains Laurent Maugoust. “It is very interesting for us to use such high quality products with outstanding technical solutions that can be adapted to different types of projects”, says Cécile Chenais.

The value of custom design

Nina Magon’s new space in Houston has transformed into the exclusive meeting place for lovers of luxury and design. Located on the first floor of Texas’ leading jewellery shop, Zadok Jewelers, the designer has opted for a sophisticated interior design very much in keeping with the aesthetic of her NM Lifestyle and Pavus collections, which include custom furniture, lighting, carpets and tableware.

To do this, Magon used an eye-catching customised natural stone from Cosentino in its distinctive emerald green colour to clad parts of the walls and the background of her logo, and combined it with the dynamism of Dekton Liquid Embers.

The NM Lounge is designed not only to showcase her pieces, but also to host small private events such as VIP dinners for jewellery brands or for Zadok Jewelers’ customers to relax and enjoy their time in the shop. An elegant, almost monochromatic space in shades of green is complemented by Dekton Liquid Embers wall cladding in a beautiful magma colour with an attractive wavy texture.

Unexpected arches

Magon wanted the room’s decoration to be dynamic and striking, but with a design that would last over time, while adding depth and interest to the furniture, and going beyond a mere display of products. To achieve this, she used a series of customised arches taking advantage of the versatility and durability of Cosentino materials.

New Dekton® and Silestone® colours: “cement” and “natural” trends

width=Cosentino is making a major worldwide sales launch with the presentation of new finishes for Dekton® and Silestone® that address current aesthetic and decorative trends in interior and exterior architecture and design. The two trends defining this important launch are the Cement trend and Natural trend. These new colours were unveiled this year at Milan Design Week 2018, where they were warmly welcomed and enthusiastically accepted by professionals and end consumers alike.   "Cement Trend" Cosentino has managed to reinterpret the different grey and industrial tones that make up building materials such as cement and concrete, and whose presence in avant-garde and contemporary design grows every day. This trend includes the new Laos, Soke, Kreta and Lunar colours from the Dekton® Industrial Collection, and the Brooklyn and Silver Lake colours from the Silestone® Loft Series. "Natural Trend"  Cosentino continues to bet on the beauty of the natural, the beauty of the eternal, the beauty given to us by the most well-known and requested marbles asked for by lovers of natural stone. Within this trend, we find the new Vera and Kira colours from Dekton®, as well as the new classics Pearl Jasmine, Eternal Marfil and Desert Silver from the Silestone® Eternal Collection.

"New Dekton® Industrial colours" Cosentino is developing four matte colour offerings to expand the successful Industrial collection of the ultracompact surface Dekton®. Laos, Soke, Kreta and Lunar are the names given to the new Dekton® Industrial colours; with a calm, detailed aesthetic, they reinterpret different cement finishes. Vera and Kira are inspired by the elegant, versatile appearance of the popular Gris Pulpis marble, and the difference between the two lies in their base tone. Cosentino Group and the Marble, Stone and Materials Technology Centre (CTM) are set to launch a nation-wide training programme on accident prevention and encouraging safe, healthy working conditions directed at the natural stone and compact quartz transformation and processing sector this coming May.

This intensive programme is being promoted by the Stone Cluster, a Spanish industry association of companies involved in natural stone extraction, processing and associated activities. It has been certified by the State Ministry of Energy, Tourism and the Digital Agenda (MINETAD), which is funding the project.

The programme will cover the entire country this coming May, June and July with more than 30 training days, which will be held in nearly every Spanish province. To promote proper accident prevention and worker protection from exposure to chemical substances in stone processing workshops, these training days - which are completely free and include both practical and theoretical material - are directed at owners and workers at stone and compact quartz cutting workshops across all of Spain.

Each training session will have a limited number of spots, which will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis until the maximum capacity (20 people) is reached. Attendees will receive an official diploma for completing the training, certified by the Natural Stone Cluster and the State Secretariat for Energy. The training days will also be supervised by the Provincial Subdelegation or Delegation of the relevant Autonomous Community.

This initiative aims to encourage, in a specialised and holistic way, the training of sector workers in compliance with current legislation. In particular, it focuses on the information that must be provided about exposure to chemical substances and potentially carcinogenic agents specified in current legal regulations on occupational health and safety. The programme will also focus on the proper preventive measures to be taken against exposure to dust and respirable crystalline silica. All of this has the final shared goal of increasing the competitiveness of the sector through best practices and cooperation.
